How different is the 4.3 from the 5 in terms of action?  Would the 4.3 be a better match for the Mermaid?

haha that might be because of my typo yesterday on the fish, i said something about 4.7  Very Happy

i've found the 4.3 a great match on the mermaid, it can be really 'twitchy' when you want it to, like quickly zipping uphill, but you can stand farther back on the board and get some really big, smooth pumps in as well.     the 5.0 in contrast sacrifices a little bit of that 'easy' acceleration on the lower end, but arguably gives you faster cruising pumps, a higher top speed.   the 4.3 stays on my board because my commute has a really long, gradual incline.

Cool.  My 4.3 and 106s are in today.  I'll slap them on the Mermaid ASAP.  I'll run your set up with the 129 as well.  I really like the 5.0 with the 129.  Let the experiments begin.  Is it raining out in your area of Texas?  Buckets in San Antonio.  Thank goodness for parking garages.

Eric, I think the main diff on something like 4.3 vs. 5.0  really depends where you like to spend your pumping energy -- most of the time.

if you tend to stay up on the nose more and 'wiggle' your way uphills, and a lot of your rides involve long gradual inclines, then the 4.3 is better for that.

if you have big, open flat or even slightly declined areas where you can jam into some massive, huge, sweeping turns and crank past 15mph with ease, then the 5.0 is going to shine.

basically, i've found wider hangars give better top-speed potential, but overall I dig the versatility of the 4.3 -- and hopefully you'll dig it for the same reason.

btw, i've found this logic holds true with randal 150 vs. 180 as well...

I feel ya on that.  It's a constant battle with rain.  The sun taunts me all day and then it rains spoty all over Houston in the afternoon.  Generally I win but not without a bunch of road rage to go with it.  Ya I'll go pump at the garages too - the local kids always give me this wierd look like why am I doing this.  If they only knew.......Bombing is fun but the way they do it generally someones always getting scraped up pretty tough....I bomb but I try to stay away from them by pumping each level as well.

Dude you are so right on - as soon as I put them on my Fathom I could tell the pump was a little quicker.  I was stoked at first - but these days I'm a bit into the wider stuff with primo pavement and lemons.  It wasn't that I couldn't cross step and power slide.  But I noticed with the 129 in the back the board was wanting to slide a bit sooner than I wanted.  Ya I could wedge it but since you showed me the dwedge I'm a bit found of the higher pumping speed with it. I bought 2 sets so no doubt one will be permanent on my Roe.  But with the Fathom I need to give it some more miles before I make a judgement on them.  Although if I were to do another Ultra - for sure 4.3's

How do you feel about a 4.3 in font and a 139 in the back for a wider sweeping back turn?

Sorry  "When I do another Ultra"

On a side note JP it's pretty awesome that you have done all the hard work on this stuff.  I'm constantly changing things but with your foundation and know how it has been with out a doubt much easier.  To think what you must have gone through to get where you are now.  Much respect....

Thanks
