Tempted to try it.
Considering it assuming that I will get more stability out of this setup when faced with steep hills and higher speeds. Not having to deal with copious amounts of mandatory risers, wedging, and 3" hardware necessary with other options is also very appealing.
Only negative I have come up with so far is some scuttle on silverfish.com that the R II hanger pivots do not fit well in the 28°, 35°, and 60° baseplates. The claim is that the hanger pivot can unseat from the pivot bushing at high speeds or during intense sliding. Any experience with this?
This would be for my first LDP setup. Any experience, thoughts, or advice regarding Randal's and the use of 60° & 28° baseplates for LDP would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Well if its mainly for LDP you won't need to worry about the high speeds or intense sliding too much, but I haven't had that pivot-dislodging issue even when riding fast. Maybe that also involved some impact? In any case I've always like the added stability of the randal-like architecture, and the randals/gullwings are the trucks I used on my pump decks around 2001-2004. However, you'll have to decide if the height (even without risers) is okay for you. I've found that my wedged LDPs with Bennetts come out about the same, even lower, in terms of topmount height.
As for silverfish I know the collective opinion was that you "never" wedge randals!! but we used to do this on our setups many years ago and worked out great -- and I caught crap for suggesting it on the forums. With the 60* and 28* degree plates, that's exactly what you're already doing now without wedging. How ironic, perhaps we were "on to something" after all, eh silverfish??
I say try it out, the thing you'll really want to spend time with is figuring out the bushings that work best for your weight, front vs. back. |

i have wegded my randals before, though not for LDP. i think that the general vibe from silverfish these days is speedboarding... and if you arent good enough to hold speed, you "freeride." so adding height is not wanted. now i like to cruise around, and go fast only occasionally. now on the OPs note: using those plates would work. what i have read, the times it pops out is during a hard forceful corner during DH. i dont think that you his that same kind of G force LDPing, it should work. if it doenst, the other thing i have read was that to fix this you use a paris hanger. the pivot does fit the pivot cup better in those trucks.
