I know Dave C is doing a lot on his SUP im preparation for his upcoming adventures http://www.thegreatbigpaddle.com/
I saw some of the endurance SUP at paddle round the pier last weekend, the fast ones were coming in under 4 hours. Impressive stuff.
I live buy the sea and almost got one last weekend, bit of a bugger to get to NZ in january - so it'll have to wait! |

NO< NO< NO
not something else to try......gahhhhhhh
James there is a trick to switching hands that makes it a smooth and comfortable transition. At least there is for canoeing, and I bet the same sort of technique would work for SUP. Now if I can only remember how it went.....It's been a FEW years since I did white water.... _________________ No matter where you go, there you are.... |

SUP is something I'm not planning to get competitive about, R&R is my main focus on this board. First accessory might be a beer-holder on the nose.
A few things I'd like to do with it are 1. get comfortable in the choppy water of Puget Sound / between San Juan Islands 2. get my daughter her own board 3. get comfortable paddling big ferry and tug wakes 4. get down to Westport in the surf.
It's not so much the switching hands, but trying not to switch hands at all. I'm trying to learn that "J-stroke" thing... Maybe you can just stand up in your canoe and try this?
"Insert the paddle in a perpendicular line near the edge of the canoe or kayak. Push the paddle back and slightly out, forming a J curve before bringing the paddle out of the water. This will help you stay in a straight line when paddling alone."
And I'm thinking later, maybe much later, the whitewater SUP may be fun. But pretty sure I'd want a crappier board to try that.
I'm not crazy about the Suit on a SUP image (spent many years to get OUT of a suit) but it is cool to see DaveC's new adventure coming along. |

lol, it's been awhile as I haven't a boat or flotation device of any sort right now. But it is in the future.......the j stroke yup got that down, or should I say did have. With power strokes though I always had to switch up sides as the j stroke causes just a bit of a loss of momentum....at least for me.
