Hi,

Thought it might be helpful to post some pictures of the "beginner" board I set up based on the great advice on the forum. Fibreflex 44 kicktail - budget deck compared to some and at least fairly available in the UK. Bennett 5.0 in front, 19* wedge, RTS129 in back 15* dewedge, Alligator 71mm 79a with Bones reds. Wedges are Khiro rail kit, with a shock pad next to the deck. Hardware is a mix of Khiro trusshead (1.5" at the front of the trucks I think) and then M5 x 60 pan head with M5 penny washers on the big side of the wedge - I've found these bolts infinitely superior to the 3" Khiro bolts that I kept blowing the heads off.

I've only got a short run to practice on - 3.2 miles there and back - but at least it's smooth and varies between flat, long mellow uphills and downs. I average about 11mph on this board (based on time and total distance, no idea what peak speed is) - with quite a bit of sweat involved. But practice is definitely making me fitter and better at the pumping.

Thanks for the help! Paul

Looks great, I was looking close at those (fibreflex) too but broke down and ordered the Roe.  I'd be interested to have your feedback after pumping that set up with the rear RTS at just a 5 degree de-wedge.

I expect if I was based in the US I would've gone for a Roe, Subsonic or Galac, but the Fibreflex was available straight away over here in the UK and on the kind of distances I'm doing (compared to the ultraskaters!) then I'm not sure a novice like me would notice the differences.

If I change the rear wedging I'll let you know but at the moment I'm focusing on improving my technique and not messing with the set up too much - it seems to work on my "regular" run ok.

I got the impression from advice on the forum that a less turny back truck is a good thing for pumping speed so I would've thought 5* de-wedge would slow things down but make the ride more "surfy".

Cheers, Paul

True true, 15 degrees I believe leaves the RTS kingpin at near vertical so it would be all traction and (no turn?) probably max for a de-wedge.  I found this link helpful: http://pavedwave.myfastforum.org/...component=content&postid=2999

Shaine,

Yes I think 15* dewedge on the RTS is the max you could go.

But....

Having seen the post in vendors corner about Octane Sport in the UK having Subsonic Pulse V2's in stock I ordered one straight away - just couldn't resist  Cool

I originally ordered the Medium/Stiff flex to match my not inconsiderable weight (~190lb) but on reading more about the Pulse V2 on here and talking to the very helpful Mr. Michael Stride at Octane, I changed to the Medium flex. I got the deck last night and set it up. Haven't ridden it yet, but just standing on it, I think the decision to go down a flex was the right one.

On the Pulse, I've taken the rear dewedging down to 13* on the RTS to take account of the slight camber on the deck. I've also pulled the front wedging down to 17* just to balance the front and rear deck height - might speed me up a tad if I'm lucky too.

Now wondering what to setup my now-redundant Fibreflex deck for.....

Cheers, Paul

Congrats on the Subsonic, and good choice on flex!   I'm about 190 myself and still unsure about this stiff flex Mermaid; See other thread: http://pavedwave.myfastforum.org/ftopic568-0-asc-20.php
I may just be used to very flexy set ups (for carving/pumping) and my technique could be iffy as I've learned on my own without any feedback Confused .  As for your kicktail, fun for coleman slides with harder wheels, ditch riding, parks too.  I'm way too prone to wheelbite when hill carving for a deck without cut aways.
