Today I was skating by the place the old Delmar skate ranch was located across from the delmar fair grounds. I have not been their since they tore it down. I drove by everyday in my daily commute to work on I-5.
I had my Mp3 player on shuffle just got done with the police sicronicty 1.
Right as I am skating past Green Fields, Golden sand by Yusuf Islam aka: Cat Stevens came on so I turned down the driveway. I had skated down the drive way I had skated down many a time when I took the bus to Delmar 20 plus years ago.
Their it sat a empty dirt field next to the miniature golf course Resse Simpson and I skated stoned on one night , Slapping the curbs.
I saw a gate that was unlocked so I walked around listening to Yusuf and remembering the Golden days of Vert before skateboarding became popular again back in the early 80's when the top pro's could skate with out getting mobbed by hundreds of kids. They would help you through tricks that you were attempting to do.
Then the Clash "lost in the supermarket" came on my Mp3.
I could not believe what a waste of a beautiful skatepark I truly felt lost walking around the field in my memories. Of Banked slalom contests Keyhole contests. Late night after hour session for us older skater. Chip Morton letting us in free if you were the in crowd was cool. Seeing GSD creep on in his skeleton pants at closing time everynight.
Then Big Audio Dynamite "Rush" came on my Mp3 I got out of the park enough of feeling sad and lost. I skated hard and fast the whole way home just happy I have been skateboarding for 37 years. happy I am able to do just what I am able to do now with LDP......

This is what's currently on the mp3 and I'm still building it up for this weekend's ultraskate. In high school and college I was playing gigs in 13-piece latin orchestra and swing bands so that might explain some of the list. Tower of Power was a huge influence, uber-tight horn section, they groove hard. Rhythm is everything when I ride. Almost everything here has a pretty good beat, the only "slower" ones are the Beach boys but they actually feel like a faster 6/8 time.
Originally I had planned on dedicating a good portion of this website to music because I seriously think it's key to tapping into some amazing long distance rides.
