i was pumping out of class, and the pivot cup on my front truck apparently split on me.  i was using that reinforced PVC water tubing as a pivot on indy plate/venture hanger.  best i can tell is that the hanger was rubbing the pivot weird, so it literally melted the PVC with the friction...whereupon, the PVC split and sent little shards out in front of the wheels.  one of the little fragments got stuck underneath my wheel and, i got pitched.

i epicly faceplanted, and i hadn't even gotten out from in front of the building i had class in Sad

here's some pics of the pivot cup:

the yellow and green marks match up...and i think the plastic melted where the red circle is

then, of course, my wheels:

the white crap is almost like a rubbery film...i can scratch it off with my fingernail, and it's not powdery like a rock would be.  so, my best conjecture is that the pivot cup shredded and a chunk of the plastic got pitched in front of the wheel

My front truck loosened up and I first noticed after getting pitched down while carving a steep hill and encountering wheel bite.  Pads saved the day.  No scratches or bruises or soreness.

Unfortunately I can't say the same about my hip, which got crushed by a surf kayak full of water as I was trying to fetch it out of the beach break.  Big bruise there.

not really surprising that the material you used fell to bits.  reinforced pipe is used to prevent swelling and cracking, and as such it's either stiffer or (usually) softer material than non-reinforced tube.

either way it's not a material that's designed to be used for a purpose where friction needs to be kept at a minimum.  the softer material version will (as yours seems to have) melt and eventually fray and rip apart.

a plug of Nylon drilled out for the pivot would be the best.  couple of drops of teflon chain lube before installing and she's good to go.

huh, i thought i responded to this

i know confederate trucks used the PVC tubing, and i think there's a good number of european precision trucks that use this same PVC tubing too, as pivot cups
