I moved this bit of back-and-forth out of the Ultraskate V thread, to the "Legality" section, where it belongs.  Perhaps some time later we can visit this again.

The most recent issue of Concrete Wave had a funny illustration on the inside back page about this.

cheers

The harbor trial is a bust I have skated it a few times after ASR trade shows with a bunch of strret skater back in the late 80's and early 90's. We could get maybe a 1/4 mile down the walkway the cops came. We were able to talk are way out of the tickets back then.
But San Diego PD is hard core now around tourist areas not designated as bike trail only.

They got Chris Yandall in pacific beach. I skated the board walk last Thursday I walked with my board from Garnet  blvd. to the boardwalk  then got on my board. Because I can't afford the fine or the time to fight it.

a bust really? i skated it twice today and it seemed like the perfect place to skate ( along harbor drive not along the bay. ) along harbor theres a bike trail that leads all teh way to seaport village, and i went past some cops and they didnt care. its all nice smooth pavement except for a couple of rough spots, 2 real intersections you have to worry about stopping but other than that its butter. almost no wind because of teh obstruction of the buildings and its just nice as hell!

its been a while since then, and even though chris yandall got busted, i dont think that it was anything more than the cop being a dick and yandall being a little sarcastic or upfront.

i liked it, ill be going to skate ther every other day from now till teh ultraskate, so if you want to join in let me know. and ive also always been amazing about talkking my way out of trouble, your in good hands hahaha.

my take on that:  be cool, the cops won't bust.   yandall mouthed off, he got busted.

if you don't know what you're talking about and apparently you don't, just shut it.

1. I wasnt ON the boardwalk when this happened.
2. I wasn't mouthing off.
3. You are a blooming idiot to make such a statement.

come on down and let's ride and leave the bullshit out of it.
thanks

i'm glad you had your day in court Chris.   the term "mouthing off" can have many interpretations.   my words above were quick, i didn't want these guys to write off that place you got busted, which still seemed like a good course for the ultraskate.

the point I disagreed with in what you wrote about this incident was the finger pointing, knowing how a cop can jump on anything small like that and book you.   i don't agree with it, and I also get my own fair share of police harassment while I commute, but there it is, they have their own "loopholes" too.    in my experience it's either "yes sir, no sir" or else you're going in a car or doing community service.  i've only had to do that once.  and I know it can't be just the redneck cops in southwest WA.  so anymore, I offer little to nothing verbally at the scene.   at most I say I disagree, and take the rest up in court.  sheepish?  perhaps.  but cops can be as loose a cannon as anyone, except they have guns and shoot cardboard guys for breakfast.

if you pointed your finger at the cop, that's all it takes here to get your ass hauled off in a cop car.  and that's the MAIN point of contention I have with what you've documented about your story in the past.

in your words:

"Everyone wants to know exactly what was said. Heck, the cop is claiming I said "#### you" and that is FLAT out lie. I did challenge his napoleon complex. Officer McNally is a little guy. He felt threatened by my strength. At no time did I ever make any threatening gestures other than pointing my finger at him to emphasize my points"

So that's all Chris.   This 'blooming idiot' is ready to hit the boardwalk and some carbs with you hopefully over the winter.

i'm up to a whopping 2 posts here! looks like you got some action.

again, leave the cop crap behind. i have Smile  i only deal with it when i see someone questioning the result.

and between you and me, this little person cop represents a typical donut eating worthless waste of tax dollars. i have cop friends that would've totally ignored the premises of why the cop got on me in the first place.

i've been around a LONG time. dealt with MANY cops face to face in heated conditions.  always've been able to talk my way out of minor situations but this *moron* (notice i didnt say ALL cops) is a perfect template to run a "police state". i am not done with him.  he will be haunted for this rest of his life for stepping out of bounds.

cheers and cYa down here Smile

Eh, I hate cops.

I've had my own run in with them.  And yeah, "Yes sir, No sir" is the only way to go about it.  They even searched my truck which was over 100 yards away, around the corner, and out of line of sight...  Can't reason with the badge and gun.  You're their bitch.  The end.

Anyway, my ass can't afford to have any sort of crap on record.  I'm applying to grad/med school, and any of that on my record pretty much screws me.
