Okay here's the background on this one... I was really happy to find this site because one of the things I run into practically once a week or at least every other week, are drivers who are literally blind to pedestrians, cyclists, and longboarders crossing intersections legally and respectfully.
One of my increasing pet peeves is to see the "dangerous" skateboarder image played up in the press, whereas the out-of-touch, cell-phone yapping, belligerent and DEADLY automobile drivers continue to mow people down on city streets and sidewalks, and argue their way out of it in court.
In other countries I've lived in or visited, there was FAR more awareness by drivers of our kinds of alternate transport, and a mutual respect on the roads. Sure enough, bikers and peds get injured and killed in places like Japan and China just the same -- but from my experiences the outright sense of "entitlement" to own the road by automobile drivers, has something very Ugly-American about it. I hope to change that one license plate number at a time, and I hope others will too.
