The long board Grotto is going out of business on wednesday.
But today they are blowing everything out I picked up some ,skateboarder, skate, skate world and a few transworlds magazines.
I got rid of all my skateboarders when I joined the air force and then I dumped all my transworlds and thrasher back awhile ago after I hurt my back. The 1970's magazine were selling for $100.00's of dollars but they were blowing them out at 3 for $1.00 but their a catch the cut the title off the top of the page or tore off the cover. I guess they did not want us cheap collectors to sell them on ebay. I went up to the counter with 3 that i wanted he had small sign $5.00 minimum so I had to buy 15 vintage skateboard magazines for for $5.00. I also got the first issue of
international longboarder.
But I have the june 1976 skateboarder issue about dogtown, tom sims and torger johnson interview. I also have the issue with the Tony Alva interview issue after he became world champion . It a weird copy were they put the pages in wrong so all the articles start in the back and then end in the front.
To bad they ripped the cover off this one it worth a ton of money but I would not sell it. I also got a joint interview with Mike Mcgill and Alan Gelfan when they were kids. I going to give this one to Mike if he does not have the issue or wants a spare copy.
It was really neat to look at all the old truck companies I kept think that truck would make a good LDP truck. I look up on my wall I have 3 pairs of Oak st mounted to holly high tails. I also own a pair of california slalom trucks.
The skater world I have the Bobby Piercy issue that is cool. plus they have a lot of articles but my old friend Russ Howell and a interview with
Ed "Gorilla grip air" Nadalin also Lonnie Toft photos in a Tux on his magic 8 wheeler.
I also saw a Bennett truck set up I for got about 4 heels on the back on lite beam boards. Continental has wide grooved rain wheel called the grand prix. Chris Chaput did reinvent the Biltin bearing concept from the bearing manufacture Yale from 1970's.
Also the transworld issue I picked out was cool because I had my name in it them for CASL contest I had been in back in the day I forgot about that.
Their was a article from skateboarder about the first banked slalom at Upland pipeline skatepark . I raced their in 1987 and won in 1a class and also delmar skateranch. I forgot about banked slalom till now what alot of memories. All the magazine had the San Onofre 23 foot full pipes I skated when the surf was blown out at trestles.
This has been the best $5.00 I spent for all the memories I received. I just glance at them now I need to reread all the articles some I have not read in 30 plus years.
