Hi Barefootboarder,
Congratulations for the 15 miles. I'm glad that it worked so well with the Holeys. You posted a nice video ! What is your deck ? It makes me feel like I want to retry the carvers with a longboard. At the present time, I'm riding the carvers with a bahne rocker short deck.

I forgot to write about the video : Great style !
This cycling track by the river looks like a dream for LDP. Is it long ? |

Not long enough! Just 2 miles, what's that - 3 km. I go back and forth and back and forth. The deck is a Sector 9 Surfcamp. I think it's pretty much the same as the Uluwatu. I'd like to try the Carvers on a shorter deck one day, but for now it's working out pretty well on the big board. I'm very happy with the Zigzag wheels too.

Hi Barefootboarder,
As a consequence of your feedback and video I moved my Carvers from the Bahne rocker to a Lush Mako deck to give them one more chance with a longboard. To be honest, I was not expecting such a great surprise. As I posted before ( see the "Carver Cx stance" topic ), I was quite disapointed by these trucks for LDP. This was mainlly due to the bushings problem. The stocks bushings were quite strong but too hard and the hangar lacked the return to center effect. And soft Khiros were chewed up in few kilometers. Moreover, they didn't realy fit, which had an incidence on the ride. I was fed up with these trucks because I started to spend more and more money on bushings and the result was not good. As I said in a previous message, when I tried the Holey bushings, the carvers were mounted on a short Bahne deck I only used as a travelling board or for commuting. The wheel base was too short for LDP.
Then I tried a 24 km ride with the lush Mako this morning and it was night and day comparing to my previous experiences. Pumping was very easy. The set up was very responsive, which was not the case before. I spent most of the 24 miles across the belgian border pumping even facing the wind. I had to pump carefully on the way back because the road was wet. It was good to test the ability of these trucks to hold a 10km/h speed. Of course the ride is rather high (1 inch riser with 75mm Avilas) but you feel so good that you don't want to go down. I will test them further and if the red Holey bushings last, I think that the Cx are definately a good choice. Many thanks to you Barefootborder for the feedback.
By the way, my Mako is growing old and I plan to get another deck, maybe not a LDP special because of the delay. I'd like something with the correct wheelbase, rather wide especially around the nose. I was thinking about Gravity spoon nose or Arbor Bamboo Blunt. Any comments or orther ideas ? |

I love my Spoon Nose for LDP. I was thinking of getting a Walkabout for a backup or second board, but I have decided against this and will go the cheaper and faster route and just buy a new Spoon nose from Gravity. You won't be disappointed. A plus side is its tail, too. I have had to use it many times while surfing side walks in San Antonio. The tail makes it easy to curb hop and acid drop off of high curbs. It also helps with the cracked road surfaces and such as well. Plus, its a great cruiser for those non-pump bank ripping sessions. _________________ I won't quit my day job. |

Hello again Mimosa! I'm very happy that you had such a 'night and day' experience with your Mako and the CX trucks. Stoked! The Mako is a fantastic board as an all-rounder, I have one still on the original Holeys and the original Ruby red bushings which I just love. It's so great to hear that you like the CX trucks on your Mako. It's brilliant that the missing ingredient is the magic Holey bushings. I think Holey trucks are gorgeous - to look at and to ride, and I'm glad to see that the Holey bushings are so worthwhile and versatile too. It's all good. Holeys bushing in CX trucks is obviously a 'very good thing'. Holeys in Bennets might be another good thing. The Carver CX on a long deck is a lot of fun isn't it?
Actually I got so curious about the Carver designs I bought a set of C7s on one of Carvers own boards last week. Completely an impulse buy and I can't wait to take it out to see what sort of speed I can get out of it... and it's been raining here ever since.
I'll let you know how it goes. I expect it'll be slower than the CX but maybe even more fun. Stock bushings at first!
As for replacing your Mako, I don't really know the boards you mention... I'd just get another Mako! hee hee!
PS Well there's been a short break in the rainstorms and I've been out on the C7s. No surprise that it's hard to get any real speed on them, but it's really fun to cruise around because they're so turny, and to be able to pump away from a standing start. I love that! |
