I can think of no better way to kick off this part of the forum than the Northwestskater page created and updated consistently by Dan Hughes.

www.northwestskater.com

Dan's one of those "old guys" who shreds pools and amazes kids wherever he travels and skates, and he travels a lot!    He's documented nearly every Northwest skatepark with some interesting commentary along the way.

He has an uncanny ability to NOT practice slalom, then come out to a few of our local events and be on the podium at the end of the day.   He also came out to the Redmond Velodrome a couple years back and clocked a personal Cyber Mile just for grins.

Most of all, Dan actively represents the Seattle area skateboarding scene, attending local town-hall meetings to champion the cause of skatepark development -- something Seattle needs desperately!

Tippin' a holiday beer to the man...

A few weeks ago, I took a few runs in Tampa's infamous "Bro Bowl." It's basically part snake run, part ditch and part bowl. It's been there since 1979. I only had my 42" LDP board. It's turney, has no tail and rides high with 75mm wheels. Not exactly an ideal pool board. I tried the pool with a 38" drop-through  and 71mm gators and it was a big improvement. The trucks (indy/core hybrid 169) were set loose up front and tighter in rear.

My problem is that I adjusted to LDP geomety: loose trucks up front, WB >30" and some flex. I am wanting a set up with another deck that I can, occasionally,  just ride mellow bowls in, nothing too aggro. But a 33" stiff deck with a 15" WB just doesn't feel right anymore. So I was thinking something around 38" with maybe a 20-22" WB, functional tail but with a little flex/snap and pump geometry. I was thinking core/indy 169 hybrids, wedged and dewedged or a carver CX 6.5 setup. All I want to do is pump and carve and do mellow stuff.

Am I on another planet or is there a pool-worthy setup that will not seem so alien to an LDPer?

I'd consider a Gravity Brad Edwards some day for a 'hybrid' type of board, and I'd stick with the Indy's, and maybe the hardest NoSkools although there are so many good retro wheels to choose from now.

I have an Afroman Numbchuck deck which is 38.5" and that's Hughes's main deck as well...I just haven't set it up since the last experiment.   If you might be interested in that deck let me know, because I may not get around to this again for some time and its not getting much love.

It'd be cool to hear what you settle on, Tampa looks like a killer park.

Yes, i was checking out the Gravity line up. The Brad Edwards almost looks too big. But I love watching his vids. I am thinking a 38", perhps something along the lines of subsonic's lowland 38. I also like the ICBM from Cold War Skateboards.

Seismic's new decks look really interesting. I like this one, but it may be a tad too small.  I really want something with lighter, more modern construction.

the BE40 rules, but she's a fairly stiff piece of wood.

i mainly ride a Gravity Carve 39" in bowls now, 20" wb, but she has a decent amount of flex that, with the right trucks (tracker 6track on the back, mutant 169 on the front...tho used to run a wedged 6track there) it'll pump surprisingly well.

wheel-wise i roll the Carve on 60mm 81a NoSkoolz (for rough stuff - one of the fastest small wheels i've ever encountered), 64mm 95a (tho really 90a) Powell Bowl Bombers, and 59mm 98a Rainskates Killer Bees (for sliding and a bit of "street tech").

i think you'd like the Carve...big enough that there's plenty of room (and doesn't feel foolish when coming off a longboard, unlike "normal" shortboards do), but not too big that you can't throw the thing around like a shortboard.

plus it doesn't just look like a popsicle stick on steroids, it's got some shape to it.
