Today I was skating by the place the old Delmar skate ranch was located across from the delmar fair grounds. I have not been their since they tore it down. I drove by everyday in my daily commute to work on I-5.
I had my Mp3 player on shuffle just got done with the police sicronicty 1.

Right as I am skating past Green Fields, Golden sand by Yusuf Islam aka: Cat Stevens came on so I turned down the driveway. I had skated down the drive way I had skated down many a time when I took the bus to Delmar 20 plus years ago.

Their it sat a empty dirt field next to the miniature golf course Resse Simpson and I skated stoned on one night , Slapping the curbs.

I saw a gate that was unlocked so I walked around listening to Yusuf and remembering the Golden days of Vert before skateboarding became popular again back in the early 80's when the top pro's could skate with out getting mobbed by hundreds of kids. They would help you through tricks that you were attempting to do.

Then the Clash "lost in the supermarket" came on my Mp3.
I could not believe  what a waste of a beautiful skatepark  I truly felt lost walking around the field in my memories. Of Banked slalom contests Keyhole contests. Late night after hour session for us older skater. Chip Morton letting us in free if you were the in crowd was cool. Seeing GSD creep on in his skeleton pants at closing time everynight.

Then Big Audio Dynamite "Rush" came on my Mp3 I got out of the park enough of feeling sad and lost. I skated hard and fast the whole way home just happy I have been skateboarding  for 37 years. happy I am able to do just what I am able to do now with LDP......

This is what's currently on the mp3 and I'm still building it up for this weekend's ultraskate.  In high school and college I was playing gigs in 13-piece latin orchestra and swing bands so that might explain some of the list.  Tower of Power was a huge influence, uber-tight horn section, they groove hard.  Rhythm is everything when I ride.  Almost everything here has a pretty good beat, the only "slower" ones are the Beach boys but they actually feel like a faster 6/8 time.

Originally I had planned on dedicating a good portion of this website to music because I seriously think it's key to tapping into some amazing long distance rides.

latin
SALSA- Tito Puente - Mambo Diablo
Eddie PALMIERI, Oscar De Leon, Cielito Lindo - La Negra Mariachi Medley
Caribbean Jazz Project - Latin Quarter
Celia Cruz and Tito Puente - Quimbara
Brasil - Salsa - Latin Jazz, Paquito D'Rivera - Snow samba
Tito Puente - Take Five
Yuri Buenaventura - Manos Latino (Salsa Jazz Instrumental)
one note samba

rock
Rush - Tom Sawyer
Rush - Subdivisions
Ozzy Osbourne - You Can't Kill Rock and Roll
Ozzy Osbourne - Mr. Crowley
Nirvana - About a Girl
Nirvana - Rape Me

punk
Wesley Willis - Girls on Film
Suicidal Tendencies - Institutionalized

funk
Tower of Power - Got the Chop
Tower of Power - Squib Cakes

Dan Deacon.    Heard this guy for the first time just recently, and found out he was at the Seattle bumbershoot and I missed him!!   Instead of ripping his tracks off Kazaa, I downloaded his "Spiderman" album off Amazon, at least to help him buy a new set of dancing sweats.

The crazy visuals on Youtube will obviously drive a lot of interest, but his compositions are really quite interesting musically -- the guy has tinkered a lot with his sounds.  Some of it plays like a raw version of David Byrne.  My wife just looks at me quizzically and raises an eyebrow.

Some derivatives of rap / house / mixes have always crept onto my mp3. Used to like the Kurtis Blow and Grandmaster Flash from the 80s.   The stuff that made my concert and symphony teachers hurl.

This is one I keep throwing on now and then.   The vid's definitely catchy.

On a whole other note... I've been cycling a lot of salsa and bossanovas lately, and techno-mixes of latin funk.  Bebel Gilberto's "Aganju" is a fave at the moment.  I'll be listening to this on the next long rides.  Just one of the finds from Pandora.com  (thanks panda for reminding me about this site!!)  I couldn't find the exact version off youtube, but this is the song...

mine is a mix of punk, country ska and some reggae.

when its punk its usually the ramones,  the business, the clash, rancid, the briggs, crass, the unseen, old DKM stuff along those lines.

country is lucero, hank sr and the 3rd( im sorry but jr just sucks) bill monroe, earnest tubb, del mccoury stuff like that.

ska is usually fast but not always....slackers, pie tasters, voo doo glow skulls, catch-22, hepcat, the specials, mighty mighty bosstones, suicide machine ect..

reggae i dont jam all that much its usually when im with my buddies who likes alot that we listen to it.
