This is the same community that lobbied against rebuilding the Burke-Gilman asphalt trail out of fear that in doing so, would increase the biker's speeds on the trail and disrupt their residents' CARS from crossing the trail. Luckily Cascade.org fought and reversed the decision, but it effectively delayed trail improvements for several years.
This is the same neighborhood where a cop pulled me over for skateboarding through a stop sign on the trail, and while lecturing me, we watched bike after bike blow through the same stop sign without incident.

That's because were quasi pedestrian and we can skate any where.
Bicyclist are consider vehilcles you should see the gangs of bicycle rider up and down highway 101 on sunday they run 4 deep in one lane in packs of 25 to 30. The cars have to pass around them if you get near them they will spit on your window or show you your number one with their finger. The cops leave them alone even when they blast thru red lights.
Damn aggressive street skaters for doing so much damage to things.
I really wish I could go back have not promoted aggressive street contests built such cool stuff for CASL.What really weird is it not that big anymore.
1987 we had the largest street style contest turn out of competitors for a CASL street contest at the oceanside pier. 1439 skaters showed up we had to have 3 skater at a time to judge it. Luckily Sonja Catalano her college minor was statistics and she's a human calculator and figured that one out quick. Most of were scared as hell on what to do but not Sonja we almost pulled it all off. Then we got kick out when we only had one more group 3A 17 and over 30 guys had to do a special street contest for them the night before a vert contest . _________________ Terry |

Went to Lake Forest Park city council hall last night. The "Youth Council" is representing the voice of skateboarders in the area.
Unlike the meeting that took place a month or so prior, which I was unable to attend, there were no city councilmembers present, just the Youth Council. A direct voice to the city would be better, apparently the discussions have been slightly "downgraded." On the other hand, the city is still listening to this group.
I was blown away by the crowd of kids that showed up and spoke last night, many in the low teens and younger. Both great, and sad to see at the same time. Only a handful of the teenage set, and I was the only "OG" -- I think the last meeting had a few guys closer to my age.
The overall impression I got from their comments was a strong sense of bigotry and injustice -- rightly so, being "outlawed" 2nd-class citizens when simply cruising through the neighborhood. And many valid comparisons made of their relatively safe recreation to the blind eye that LFP Police are turning to all the street and trail violations by bicyclists.
This LFP law technically prohibits me from riding my skateboard 1/2 block north of my house, which I do in going to work. I haven't been ticketed or cited, but I get "the look" from roaming police when I'm spotted on the roads behind my house. I hope to be giving the LFP police chief a demonstration on footbraking in the next month.
