Besides bushings what else could you use/make a toestop out of?

How Do mrgumdropman Wink

You can use almost anything your imagination can think of.

Slalom racers use for example:
Shaped wooden foot blocks that look like bananas bolted to the deck shaped to fit the foot and its ideal position.
Foam blocks stuck to the front of the deck shaped to fit the foot and its ideal position.
Pieces of bend steel rod held by adjustable clamps so the position can be moved around to suit.
all kinds of fancy milled Aluminium shapes some fixed some adjustable.
two that seem to be readily available on some of the skate forums are the crowbar, and the Chapman foot block.

I have on my Slalom deck a Chapman foot block see pic.

and on my LDP I use a Bennett bottom bushing as this lets me move around my foot position a little more easily.

I hope this helps?

Take care,
