sigh...such a noob please be kind.hello guys and gals. I've put my efforts toward learning the skill of LDP. I don't have the cash for buying a new set up so I would like to turn one of my long boards into a LDP friendly set up.
My question is for someone learning. I have an Original torpedo 40 and am thinking of outfitting it with the Subsonic Pulse gear. The only thing that will be different will be the deck which is longer. I believe the Torp has a 31" wheel base. Will this work for a beginner that has to bide his time until he can afford a better deck for LDP?
thank you all for your time.

Most LDP decks have a fuller nose so that you can have most of your foot over the front truck, but I'm sure you can make this work until you get a dedicated LDP deck. I have a Pulse and it is currently set up with the longest wheelbase of 30". What trucks were you going to use? I'd recommend getting a Bennett and soft bushings to start.

This is what I'm thinking of puting on the board.
trucks: Bennett 5.0/ Tracker 129mm RT-S combo from Subsonic
wheels: retro zigzag 70mm 86a
and of coarse some wedge risers.
I'm picking everything up from subsonic.
You mentioned different bushings. I was going to go with what came on the Bennett's for a start. Will this work for me to learn on for a lil while?
If I could do better with some different bearings I'm sure I can get ahold of some of those too.
thanks for your help.

The stock bushings in the Bennetts did not do it for me. At the moment I'm running Abec 11 Lemons on top and lime bottoms with a orange khiro top at the very bottom in my Bennetts. As you might've read on pavedwave.com there's a whole other world to truck customization. I would definitely purchase some orange and white khiro barrels (this will however depend on how much you weight).
You won't be needing another deck from what you've described. I'm doing my LDP'ing on a dropped deck that's very narrow in the front, so there's nothing stopping you from using your torpedo.
I won't comment on wheel size simply because I'm not sure what would and would not bite.

The Bennett bushings are too hard for LDP. Try white/orange Khiros or blue/orange Venoms.
The 86a wheels are fine for near perfect asphalt or concrete, but other than that maybe go 80a/83a. Consider 75-77mm diameter wheels as they will roll over debris on trails a bit easier and will give you a couple extra millimeters clearance for your Bennett kingpin.
Whatever bearings you already have are probably just fine. Save the money for the LDP deck.
What is the Torpedo outfitted with? Maybe you could use the wheels and one of the trucks.

The Original trucks look awesome, but not for LDP. I'm also curious about what wheels you got with your torpedo. They seem to be recommending wheels around 60mm for the most part.

The Torpedo came with 65mm 78a wheels. The trucks are 200mm S8's that I think are way too big for LDP. The bearings are abec 3's.
thanks for the heads up on the Bennett bushings. I will look into the change you suggest for them.

Bigger wheels would be nice.
Abec 5, 7 or Reds would be an improvement, but try not to spend more than 15 bucks on bearings. I'm trying some abec 7 VXB bearings for under $5 including shipping next: http://stores.ebay.com/VXB-Bearin...olZ2QQdirZ1QQfsubZ2QQftidZ2QQtZkm
Don't forget a wedge riser kit and some hardware (1 3/4" to 2 1/2")!

abec 6 or 7s >$15 check
bushing upgrade check.
wedge risers check
thanks for all the help.
I'll be pumping in no time.....
