Setup conversion to an LDP. Advice needed :)Hi people,
i'm a beginner boarder and very interested in doing LDP. could you help advice me convert my setup into an LDP friendly setup?
current setup:
board: zflex jay adams cruiser (29.25" x 7.5")
trucks: tracker darts
wheels: zflex Z Smooth (63mm / 82a)
bushings: khiro blue front and back
risers: flat, no wedge(1/2" front and back)
currently my "skill" level is pretty basic, i can push and turn. everytime i try to "pump" the board slows down.
would it all be easier to pump if i swap out the risers and the bushings?

Well, what youre using now is pretty far from an ldp setup but its possible to pump just about anything. If you really dont want to spend much money you could change out the bushings to make it easier. Go softer in the front (khiro whites or oranges or both) and harder in the back (khiro reds or yellows or both). Thats the cheapest change you could make and would help a lot. I couldnt find z-flex trucks online so i dont know what they look like or how theyre set up. From what i could see, most zflex's these days ship with either tracker or carver trucks. If thats the case, then adding some wedging to the front and dewedging to the rear might help some but i would start by changing the bushings.

hi! thanks for the input. i just check, my trucks are tracker darts. oops. ok i'll swap out the bushings. how about the wheels, are they good for pumping? what angle risers should i get?

the wheels should be OK to start out with, but you'll probably want to replace the front riser with a 7degree Khiro soft angled riser (initially). install it with the thin end towards the front.
this will help the Trackers turn quicker up front, which is what you want when pumping.
so change the riser and front bushings and it'll be better. still won't really do LDP, but you'll be able to pump it in a more slalom-style (given it's shorter wheelbase and length).
my main bowl/pool board is a 39" Gravity with 161 trackers, angled in the front. pumps pretty well once you get a bit of speed going, but in no way is it able to do LDP.

What youve got going there, if im not mistaken, is kind of an old school 70's era slalom setup. You can make improvements to it by wedging the front some and dewedging the back some (that is, the skinny end of the risers should always be facing towards the nose of the deck) and by making those bushing changes. Unfortunately, your wheelbase is too short and the deck is too skinny for serious distance but it should be great for learning the fundamentals of pumping. Id suggest getting out on a mild downhill slope and practicing. Once you get the feel for shifting your weight around and pumping downhill, pumping on the flats or even uphill will be much easier. Eventually youll want bigger, softer wheels, a larger deck, different trucks, etc. etc. but what you have now should be fine to learn on.

plastic cupssetup some plastic cups at 5 feet intervals on a mild slope, angle your fettt 30 degrees off straight ahead, throw the baby and when you fall down because you run over cones you'll be ready to go. maybe buy a plank at home depot and wedge front and back right if money for an next blank is an issue. wood is your friend.
