SDPPC board

I am making a short distance push/pump commuter (SDPPC if you didn't get it all ready). This is essentailly going to be a small board (32 inch at most) with a kicktail for curbs. I am keeping it small for easy carrying because it will be at school or on the bus with me. so it needs to be able to be under my arm or strapped to my backpack. I am thinking about using Randal 125's for both trucks just cause on my short commutes to the bus or school i need something that will be able to pump a little and bomb small hills. I am thinking the set up to be:

FRONT:
Truck: 125 hanger 42 or 50 baseplate (both Randal)
Bushing: Blue venom standard or Blue barrel with orange cone

BACK:
Truck: 125 hanger 30/DH baseplate (both Randal)
Bushing: Red standard or red barrel with green cone or green barrel with yellow cone.

My main question is how much should i wedge and de-wedge the trucks? since they are reverse kingpin trucks i am not sure. And should i run a normal pumper bushing set up on it? or should i run something different? I have been looking all around and i can seem to find anything on randal setups. so help would be much appreciated and any kind of setup critique would be nice to.

So guys please and thank you.

P.S. sorry if this made close to no sense.  Embarassed

wedge and dewedge, just a little less than an LDP.

i would nix the acronym and call it a "skateboard"   Razz

its a bird....no, its an airoplane...no, it is a "skateboard"  Very Happy

i like the acronym and you said to put less wedge then LDP does that mean 5 front and back is more then i should have?

i swapped the SMA little plane deck that i setup for pumping back around into a more "skateboard"-like setup.

30" long, 20" WB, bennett up front, thunder in the back, currently about a 5d rear dewedge and a 3d front wedge (more wedging makes it feel real squirrely).

fun little deck for getting around on, and even with the increased wheelbase (redrilled) there's still a smidgeon of kicktail left to get the nose up if need be (tho needs a bit of manhandling, esp. with big wheels back there).

and since it's clad in that ceramic polymer weave stuff, it's become my wet-day cruiser.  i forgot how mushy bushings become in the wet!  Shocked

just start with 5-5 and "if it feels good, stay with it."   Depends on what kind of speeds you hit and the whole balance between pumpability on flat vs. stability at speed.  seems to me that combo should work great.

I would wedge it just like an LDP board, about 15* up front and about 5-10* in the back. I know you're looking to pump short distances but i think having an LDP setup might serve you well since the only real difference between pumping 1 mile and pumping 10 is where you plan to stop.

Nice acronym

Nice acronym, in my line of work almost everything is an acronym; i.e.(PEEP, PRVC, SIMV, IPRV, NIPPV, yada yada)
I'll take the SDP part of your acronym, how far qualifies for LDP? Very Happy  What I really need is an "SDP" for the daily 30min workout and an occasional 2 to 3 mile ride & not further than that any time soon.  Considering an Axe Maximus redrilled to 24.5" for that very purpose.  Bennett 4.3 front & stable seismic 105 rear to max the WB.  There has got to be some flex with the WB out like that.  Talk me out of this if it sounds ridiculous Rolling Eyes
RiPPer

Nope, no flex on the Maximus.  Not even with a 24.5" wb.  How much do you weigh?
Shaine

I'm 190lbs;  but without the beer belly I should be 175lbs Confused I need the LDP weight loss plan Laughing

As ripper said, the maximus is completely stiff. If you want something along the same lines you could consider an Axe III Ultimate medium flex. Its got a nice carbon fiber pop and if you dont end up using it for ldp its an amazing GS, SGS, ditch board.  My personal suggestion tho is that there isnt really much of a difference between an SDP and an LDP setup, just how far you go. If you get a nice LDP setup then your 30 minute workout will start taking you further and further. Also, you might discover a love of pumping and start taking it out for 2 hours on saturdays or whatever, something that would be really difficult on a less than ideal setup.

I think John Galac is the only guy whose acronym "GTCPLDP" really just makes me smile, because it's so outrageously long and tied to a beautifully simple board, but also encompasses just about everything a board can do  "Glide Turn Carve Pump Long Distance Pumper"

I won't argue why acronyms beyond LDP make little sense, sometimes things like this just take a life on their own.  Slalom already has TS, HS, GS, and SGS.  I just consider LDP defining a typically topmount board with a wheelbase that's bigger than a SGS-sized board, but scaled-up in all dimensions.   It's not some attempt to define a particular distance.  What works for a 1-mile pumper usually works perfectly for a 242-mile pumper as well.

I'll leave it to the online skaters on the Lush and Silverfish forums to argue what is "long distance" versus short, medium, etc.  It was never my intention to try defining what is long, that's why I think further sub-categorization of "skateboarding" into sub-distances is kind of silly.    (I guess this link might be helpful to explain some of the 'context' this question of distance is coming from - http://forum.lushlongboards.com/v...=4db7bed9b11fba093db406544b50f5d5 )

At some point, I find that all these conversations end with the classic "Shut up and Skate"

And on another note, I have found the LDP weight loss plan to be very efficient!   Very Happy

as LDP is relatively new/unknown down here, it's interesting to have to explain what LDP stands for.  mention the word "pumping" and you have to qualify exactly what you're talking about otherwise people assume, er, something else!  Very Happy

to me "long distance" is any length where you expend more effort and sweat to get somewhere than you'd normally do.  SDP/LDP - no difference in boards IMO.  pedestrian slalom somewhat different.

Thanks guys, that helped me a lot.  I know what I should get and I think it'll end up what most are suggesting for LDP options.  I love hearing that saying, ("Shut up and Skate"), makes me think of my teenage years skating in the 80s.  At some point I do grow tiresome of endless posts, in certain other forums, on technicalities that are far more trivial or personal than they are good technical advice.  I have not been involved in any forums for a long time now as they can be so impersonal and even narcissistic at times.  Often no one misses you if you havn't posted for a quite a while and its just plain never comes close to just shoot'n the breeze with yer dudes in person.
Shaine

Thanks again for the tips.  I know it takes some patience answering the same newby questions over and over again.  I usually spend a lot of time "searching out keywords" for answers before posting a question.  I'm officially terminating the acronym "SDP" from my vocabulary Wink

I hear that, getting out and riding is what its about.   I really appreciate the comments and people generating a good vibe when it comes to being online, when we're not able to be out on a board.   It's also been awesome hooking up with people here in "real" life that might have never otherwise known they shared a like-minded interest.   A healthy forum has interesting discourse from time to time but I don't think a forum needs to be an every-day experience or feel empty if nothing happens for a few days or longer.

A community like this one will ebb and flow.  Having the faucet turned on full blast all the time just isn't humanly possible nor desirable.   I do miss those who post here so infrequently, but it's always good to see their brief returns and blips on the screen -- the occasional, tiny connecting thread is better than none.

In the end we can all fall back to the wisdom of Spicoli -  "All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine"   Very Happy
