Along with my many truck woes of the last week, the hangar that i borrowed from james ate my pivot cup within two rides. Now the pivot of the hangar has been filed down some by rubbing metal to metal for a while before i noticed it. Fortunately, i did eventually notice it and the cup from my orion sp-1 baseplate fits the bennet perfectly (better than the stock cup i think). I have since polished the pivot and rounded it out so hopefully i wont have the same problem but it led me to a couple questions.

1. Where can I get a replacement pivot cup for a bennett? If it fits the khiro replacement cups, which one, large or small?

2. Anybody have an opinion on soft versus hard pivot cups?

I've found the soft cups squeak more than the hard ones, and might create a little more resistance, so I'd lean toward the "Small-Hard" pivots.

Seconded on the Small Hard Khiro pivot cups.

I also add a smear of high quality cycle bearing grease to the pivot (Finish line and Park tools make some great high wear resistance grease with teflon and the like which does not damage rubber or plastic pivot cups, or any bearing seals)
I have not had to change a single cup in any of my trucks since using the grease, after every very long session or a few trips to town I clean and relube, you only need a very small ammount and after standing on the deck; once re-assembled wipe of the excess grease that squeezes out.

I started using the grease after buying some modified trucks from Richy Carrasco at sk8kings and wondering what the blue grease was for in the pivot cup, after asking him, he enlightened me to why he uses it.

Also if you want a dry alternative to grease you might try one of the dry wax chain lubes or a dusting of graphite powder.

I know ive said it a thousand times but what works best for me still remains just simple bar soap. The reason this pivot cup fell apart was some poor manufacturing of the hangar mixed with 90* temps. Generally speaking tho, just a few chips of soap every session for the first week and then about once a month after that keeps my pivots absolutely silent.

Totally aside: The hangar that james lent me was one of the special edition (?) white powder coated bennets. I could totally be wrong but the powder coating seems to have made the bushing seat really nice and smooth, very minimal wear so far on my bushings. Normally i spend an hour with a dremel on a new hangar but this one just needed that pivot cleaned up, the seat was much better than average.

No offense intended or perceived, i think bike grease is a great option too, i was just throwing in my 2c on the squeaking issue.

can i recommend NOT using PVC water piping?

for reference...the green and yellow marks indicate the same damage, and the red is a melted part from the friction.

i still can't grow a beard in some spots because of that friggin pivot cup...bustin' up like it did and making me faceplant...yuck.

I was "tinkering" with my setup last night and thought I'd try replacing the Bennett soft pivot cup with a harder one from the Khiro bushing kit I've got. Firstly, they're not easy to get out! Secondly, I found that although the Khiro soft replacement pivot cups fit the Bennett fine, I could not get the Khiro hard pivot cups to go in. Anyone else found this problem?
