cyber slalom sundays at the cell

Will shoot for Cyber most wet Sunday mornings, 7am--10am.   Often followed up by a carb, protein, and fat boost from Beth's.   Drop a note beforehand if you're coming for sure.

If the weather report on Saturday reports a confident dry weekend, then the alternative slalom spot (a.k.a. a "real hill") will either be Lakeland Hills in Puyallup, or our college campus parking lot that we shouldn't mention much online.   Be sure to get a hold of Brad, Corey, or Stryker for the alternative plans.

We'll continue testing those timing "tubes" from Pat Chewning.  Last week they performed 100% reliably!

Cyber Confirmation, i'm down

it's been a couple of weeks since I've been on my board,  so I'm jones'n for a session.  the last cyber session, I went to a harder wheel with mixed results.  the 89a 70mm retros were sliding when pumped hard, they chirped.  no grip, no rip so i'm going softer tomorrow, maybe 3 durometers, 89/86 front, 86/83 rear with soft ones on the right side cuz my heel side pump breaks them loose, being regular footed. Cool
Michael Dong

Hiya!!!

Hi Everybody.  Good duro setup Patrick.  Don't forget its the wheel on the inside the turn that does the most work.  If you are regular foot and the rear is sliding on toe-side turns, you want to soften up the right rear.  If your are regular footed and you are sliding on heal-side turns, you want to soften up the left rear wheel.  Seems backwards?  Lets talk at the next cyber session (assuming I can drag my carcass out of bed).

Michael
pavedwave

Many of us are busy with holiday plans but if a small group is up for this Sunday sesh, I can make it 7--10 before we shoot down to Portland.  Lemme know!

The timing system was sketchy last week and Michael's pretty sure it was the finish line tube failing.   We'll need to pick up some real timing strips no matter what, in the coming month.
DancinDan

Tomorrow

Hey, if tomorrow is happening, can I bring somebody? I was thinkin about seeing if Jeremy, aka GnarDog, wanted to come down. Let me know.

Dan

cyber sunday

I'm down for a cyber session, I spoke with Brad last night, he wants to skate as well.  I'll check this forum later to confirm.

Thanks,

Patrick
pavedwave

Dan, that'd be great to have Jeremy along --

Michael's swinging by here soon to drop off the timer, and he might make the sesh tomorrow, a little later around 9 I imagine, in any case I'll be there from 7 until about 10-- woot!
pavedwave

great session last week!   alldred, jackman, corey, the dongster, david, and spencer getting his PR of 10.887!

tentatively planning on another sesh tomorrow morning, 7 a.m., depends on what happens at the CSA pizza -n- brews tonight.

cheers
pavedwave

Last week, Sheldon showed up for a first time and was running the course clean!!

The timer's sketchy, but we'll ride offsets or play some cyber chicken

-- 7 AM tomorrow !! --

Skip Marcotte's in town, and Jackman, Stryke Force, Alldred for sure

cyber slalom sundays at the cell

Have fun guys, I gotta work tomorrow. Maybe if it' s dry next weekend we'll hit up Lakeland
Michael Dong

Last weekends Cyber

So how did the timer work out?  Was it a go?
pavedwave

Michael Dong wrote:

The tubes have still been on the blink.   Time to get the pool going and invest in some strips!

IF it looks like rain/wet tonight and tomorrow morning, then I'll be at the CELL tomorrow at 7:30 a.m.!!

IF it seems like sun --- then Lakeland, probably more like 10--11 ish?
pavedwave

Yup, it's wet --------  CELL at 7:30 !!

.
pavedwave

Sunday's lookin wet yet again!   I gotta leave by 10:30 at the latest, so I'll be there from  7 a.m.  Can start earlier if you guys want to hit Beth's??

Talking with Michael about the timing strip order-- we just have the non-functional tubes for now, unless a miracle happens and they start working again.

So will set up some offsets, maybe a 5.5 footer, and we might even see Skipper from P-town!

I'm feeling under the weather and staying in today. Should be at cyber tomorrow at 7.
See you then.
pavedwave

great sesh last week fellas.   although a little bit too much wheelbite-- WHAM!!!  sorry bout that corey and brad, you guys are tough!!   after spending three days nursing my wounds, I went ahead and slammed it again on thursday, I must really have it in for that knee...

thanks again for coming to the birthday breakfast on such a killer sunny day.

and since it's another sunny weekend....

I thought you guys had your eye on him
pavedwave

Notes from this morning's cyber...

1. frikkin awesome garage session, esp. now that NW winter is back.
2. small crew, followed up with Beth's afterward.
3. the garage installed TRAFFIC TURTLES!!    spent 1 hour resetting new course.
4. new course was aimed directly at concrete wall as run-out.  must re-do.
5. next week bring 174-foot piece of string, and chalk, and do it up right.
6. i'm liking the kicktail thing more...
7. buy brad breakfast next time.
pavedwave

8 a.m. Saturday morning and possibly Sunday, same time as well...

Everyone's jonesin' a bit to skate after the 3 weeks of snow!

And...we got some new setups to test and tweak!
LDPanda

I gotta work saturday, but sunday is a possibility. I have zero experience with slalom, but it would be fun to watch at the very least. if you wanna hit me up with a pm on the location, id appreciate it.

Edit: Next time, I guess?
pavedwave

Sunday 8 a.m. "Skate Lab" is on.   Got a few test setups, along with the cyber -- hopefully we'll have a timer tomorrow!
pavedwave

8 a.m. tomorrow, Brad, Corey and Dano down at the Garage for sure so far, and bringin' ze timer.

I might be down at Greenlake uber-early  -- if any hardcores are up for some cold weather crack of dawn pumps, post here or drop me an email tonight to meet at the "ultraskate spot" at 6:30.
blake

hey if i can some how get up there i will but i will not have that much stuff i will prob be biking so dont expect much from me
LDPanda

Any decision yet about tomorrow? Personally i prefer the cell, but if its a real hill, ill prolly come too.
LDPanda

I had a blast today, thanks guys. Getting thru the cones cleanly (if slowly) was a great feeling. I really look forward to learning more about slalom.
pavedwave

great time dave!

stryker should enjoy these

blake

we doing it this weekend?
pavedwave

8:30 Marshall and I are meeting at Gasworks tomorrow a.m., and I think Dave will be boarding his way toward us from U-Village, we're going to just go East and see how far we feel like going, guess the farthest we might go is 50 miles   Wink

I figure the weather is mostly good tomorrow so the fellas willl probably be doing the Puyallup hill... and we been jonesin for some trail miles.    Show up if you can!
blake

i wish i could make it out but i am just hurt at the moment and cant get out
LDPanda

Any plans for the seattle crew this weekend? Indoor/outdoor slalom? Greenlake? Burke? im up for anything on sunday.
blake

if this weather continues it probably gunna be the cell which i am hoping just because i havent gone in ever and i can finally go and i dont think i will be able to go to the hill.
pavedwave

This coming Sunday's gotta be an early one for me, we're leaving for Husky basketball at 11 a.m. -- so I'll be at the garage from 7 a.m.

Patrick,  I can pick you up and carpool on the way in if you want??
blake

i will see you there jp i am can finally go
LDPanda

Ill be there.
LDPanda

Anyone from the seattle crew interested in doing some night skating in the near future? I was thinking probably greenlake but there might be other options. I just want to get some experience skating at night, a couple hours or something on a friday or saturday night would be best for me. Anyone interested let me know.
blake

i would be down but my lisence has been revoked so i can't drive any more. but i can prob get down here atlease once
pavedwave

I'll see about the nighttime, I think Patrick would be game.   I just have to balance it with the wife's "movie night."   It's a good idea to do these like you say, to get a sense of how COLD its gonna get for the ultraskate at night.

Btw -- definitely a garage session this coming Sunday, 8 a.m.!
pavedwave

The Harlem Globetrotters aren't until Sunday afternoon!

So...I'd rather skate Greenlake if its actually still dry Sunday morning, anyone else?   Breaking with tradition, I'd like to plan on meeting at Greenlake at 8 a.m., UNLESS its raining, or if it starts raining, then we just head for the garage.   What ya think?
LDPanda

Well, id really like to work on my axe and try out some hybrid, but id totally come to a  greenlake sesh too. From what i hear, weather is supposed to be nice today (Im gonna head out your direction in about half an hour and go to woodinville, feel free to call me) but i heard its going to rain on sunday. Either way, im down to skate, but my vote goes for slalom Smile

Edit: didnt quite make it out to woodinville Sad i got tossed by a nasty chunk of gravel near the tunnels past motion Sad smashed my headphones and had no music, so i decided to go home. Still a decent trip but not quite as far as i was looking to do today. Still prefer slalom for sunday, but ill have more energy for ldp than i thought.
blake

either or i dont really care. the only problem is i can maybe get mom or dad to drop me off and maybe get some one to take me to greenlake if we move. or i can bike with one board. so if we move it will be worthless. man i need a better way to carry boards. any ideas? maybe a baby carrier.
jat.

I've done plenty of biking with a Dervish on my back. Just ''strap it on'' using a backpack. I felt like the Dervish might be just a couple of inches too long for comfortable riding, but I never experienced wheel bite Wink
LDPanda

well, whats the plan guys? slalom at the cell or ldp at greenlake?
pavedwave

It's already sprinkling outside, so the Garage for sure, 8 a.m.!
LDPanda

I assume we're getting together tomorrow, it looks like rain. Blake, if you happen to come would you mind bringing along that 4.3? Ive got the 6.0 and some wheels for ya.
blake

sorry man i cant come i have no way there. and the rain is to hard for me to the bike so as soon as i can sorry man
pavedwave

Will be doing a cyber/garage session tomorrow 8 a.m.!    I may not slalom a lot but I'm going to try getting some LDP laps in.

Tonight Brad's playing with THE FUZZ at the Skylark in West Seattle, here's some samplers of the band:

The band is on at 8:30.  No cover charge.
http://www.skylarkcafe.com/
blake

i may do laps with you. and bring the dh because i am getting a ride there.
LDPanda

im gonna bring the roggs mistress deck with me if anyone wants to check it out. I dont have it mounted with anything becuase i really dont have the hardware (nuts, bolts, risers). If you wanna actually ride it you should bring some wedges and some longish hardware Smile I may or may not bring trucks for it, not sure what i can scrounge up. *cough* 4.3
blake

to make up for not bringing it i can bring up the 4.3 hardwear and some risers are you happy now LDPanda haha
blake

hey i got my wisdom teeth removed yesterday but i do feel great. (could be the pain pills i have been enjoying them to no end haha.) but is there gunna be a garage? if your going to the hill i will prob not be able to make it.
pavedwave

"Virage at the Garage"

Sunday  8 a.m.

And it was Brad Jackman's 47th Birthday yesterday, March 13th -- Birthday Breakfast after the sesh!!
blake

i will try and make it.

**edit** the rents say no so i will miss the birthday breakfast i am sorry. i am gunna keep trying i might be able to do it.
blake

hey it looks like its gunna be a nice week so if any one thinks they are going to the hill i just wanna know if i can catch a ride i rather do this now rather then later.
LDPanda

Unless im mistaken, this sunday is easter sunday. I have family stuff to do at least in the early part of the day. Are we planning on anything this weekend? Anybody up for something saturday instead? Ive started a habit of my house to redhook for a beer and back on saturday mornings.
blake

i would be up for a saterday something
LDPanda

We could do Gasworks to Motion, chill for a bit, then head back. Not a super intense journey but might be fun for saturday morning. I dont know if the weather is supposed to hold tho, it looks kinda nasty at the moment.
blake

i would be down for that maybe get the roggs from you then too.
blake

Soooooooooo whats going on guys? dave saterday burke? james sunday burke?
LDPanda

I have an idea. The weather probably will not be cooperating this weekend (at least saturday, and sunday isnt really feasable for me) so i propose we plan on meeting at gasworks around 8. If the weather is good we can ride down to motion, hang out, grab some coffee across the street, whatever. If its raining we can go straight from gasworks to some breakfast joint and talk gear and rides and shoot the shit. If that sounds good to you guy(s) then let me know. I beleive both of you have my phone number and ill be chekcing back here.

Hope it works out!
blake

Well i might or might not show because i bus schedules and such  and if you need my number its (206)-793-7276
pavedwave

LDPanda wrote:
... i propose we plan on meeting at gasworks around 8....

that's a really good plan in general, I could see putting 10 miles in just getting down there, then another 10 coming back home... the only issue is like you said, looking at the hourly weather forecast, the rain kicks in right around early Saturday morning.   if its still wet out Saturday evening, i may be tempted to hit the garage.  there's a Roe speedboard down there waiting for some trucks.

the only other opening I envision is if the sun breaks out Sunday late afternoon.   at least we got some good commutes this last week?!
LDPanda

I think there might be some miscommunication or im confused or something. I was talking about meeting on SATURDAY at 8 am. Sunday i probably cant do anything at all unless its very early at the garage. Anyway, ive got my phone, ill be awake early enough to meet up at gasworks by 8. If anyone else is heading out there just give me a call when you leave and ill be there.
pavedwave

a. yep, saturday 8 a.m. gasworks, but if its wet, that's 10 miles of wet for me to skate there = no go
b. so if that fails, then saturday evening garage
c. if no worky then slight chance i might get out sunday afternoon

now i'm confused  Laughing
pavedwave

Dave, fyi if I wake up real super early tomorrow morning, which is par for the course, I might just drive down to Greenlake and ride a couiple hours before sunrise, before it starts raining...  I'll text you in the morning if you're not out tossing back pints tonite   Wink

http://www.weather.com/outlook/tr...mp;begDay=101&from=hrly_graph
LDPanda

Sounds good, hit me up in the morn.

Blake, if we dont end up doing something this morning and you want to meet up another time or something give me a call.
LDPanda

We doing any slalom this weekend? I hear it doesnt look like great weather sunday, maybe some garage cones? I know i need some practice with Fast and Furious in two weeks!
pavedwave

Indeed.   Very wetty... Brad and Glenn are also game.   Cyber 8 a.m. manana!
blake

i am pissed i misse dthis i had to go to my bros college graduation though. anything next week possibly?
LDPanda

Sorry you couldnt make it, i brought your stuff with me. If you want to grab that deck some time this week let me know, i can drive out your way.
blake

will it happen tomorrow?
LDPanda

i doubt it from what ive heard

james was out of town today, jackman and styker are hitting up the hill. I gotta go up to bham in the afternoon.
pavedwave

Yep, sounds like the Puyallup hill was LIT UP all weekend!    Took the Amtrak back home last night after one of the most stoke-jammed skate weekends ever with G-bomb Mark and Eric up from Texas, carousing the town of Vancouver on some mellow bombing runs topped off with a 16-mile jag on the Burnt Creek trail.   Brewskis along the way!   Some shots to come later, off to more yardwork for Mom's day...

Our garage-cyber sessions taper big time until next fall/winter when the weather turns.  When its dry and sunny its time to get the trail grooves bumpin again and usually the fellas start hitting the hills pretty hard, either Sat or Sun.   I'll see if Brad/Corey will start posting the sessions here as well.
LDPanda

Blake, if you wanna come out to the hill sometime hit me up, i plan on going every day i can for the forseeable future Smile
pavedwave

I have some random snaps of Fast and Furious, got distracted once the skating started   (do not hire as event photographer)   Very Happy

http://s157.photobucket.com/album...ve/Fast%20n%20Furious%20May%2009/

I was there to chill and have a good time, hence the 62mm 72a Cambrias.   The Virage LDP trucks felt perfect on that big open course.

I did shoot some vids to stick together later, and Corey/Darrin usually have some really good shots I'm sure they'll post on ncdsa.

That hill is great.   Excellent weekend guys-- you're getting faster!!
blake

hey do you know if they posted up the pictures on ncdsa i have been trying to see if they have  but i dont really know how to navigate the site
LDPanda

So far the only pictures ive seen are from Glenn on facebook (mostly the pro racers and his daughter and himself) and a few from James on the link here (no racing shots, just hanging out). Im hoping to see some pictures from Corey but i havent found them on either NCDSA for facebook so your guess is as good as mine.
pavedwave

I found a couple

LDPanda

I dont know wtf expression is on my face in that shot. I can only assume i was looking into the sun or just ate the sourest lemon ever. Either way, not my most flattering moment  Embarassed
blake

wow i am an idiot i am not even wearing a helmet haha
pavedwave

First Fall session for 2009-- this Sunday the 15th, 8 a.m.!

Corey's bringing the timer, Brad's got the cones.    I'd better set up a board    Laughing
LDPanda

HECK YES! I will be there fo sho!

Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy
SoloRider

I'm very interested in this, I'm gonna have to scrounge up an appropriate deck though...
LDPanda

I have an extra board set up as im sure some others do. Dont let lack of a slalom rig keep you from coming. The cell is a great time!
SoloRider

LDPanda wrote:

I'm definitely out for tomorrow but next weekend I might have to take you up on that loaner Dave.  It's going to be a couple weeks at least before I can build another deck for myself.

Oh yeah, I'm going to need an address at some point as well.
pavedwave

Yeah Sean for sure, don't let gear get in the way, we always have some extra boards kicking about.   Great session yesterday, 7 of us there, including long-absent Dancin Dan, followed up with Beth's for breakfast!   Brad and I almost got the timer set up, it was productive troubleshooting, we figured out which parts are broken and we should have it up and going next time around  (next Sunday if the weather is crap again.)

I just converted this shitbird park board to slalom yesterday morning and it rocked!  something I'd been thinking of doing a really long time, because the board felt so good in the parks-- worked out great on the cyber course!!

As for location, I don't broadcast because this is a secure garage, but we can take that up in email   Wink
pavedwave

Weather is still looking frumpy -- so I'll be there Sunday the 22nd, 8 a.m.!

This is the ceiling pipe clearance with TuTall Stryker I was talkin about last time.   Nobody's ever hit their head but we've had a couple connect their fingers with the pipes when they're really thrashin around.

blake

haha thats a lie JP i connected once and it took my off my board very very fast. haha
pavedwave

don't grab the pipe.   you don't get a cookie for falling off your board!
blake

i should get a cooking just cause i didnt grab the pipe the pipe grabbed my head
pavedwave

Sunday morning pounding rain meant Cyber slalom #2 in the Northwet this season!   We finally got the kinks in our timing system worked out and marked a new regulation course.

Best times of the day:

Michael Dong - 8.373  (no practice all year)
Brad Jackman - 9.194  (consistently in the 9.2's)
James Peters - 9.471
John Stryker - 9.569
Dave Addington - 10.401   (most runs and most improved for the day)
Dave Johnson - 10.604   (first timed cyber)
GForce Glenn - 11.629
LDPanda

Im glad i put down a good time but that run cost me. I hit a rock in the runout and im hurtin today. Im sure my wrist isnt broken, not enough swelling, but its a bad sprain. I really should invest in some slide gloves, even for slalom in the cell i guess. Im pretty sure i bruised a couple ribs too 'cuz my side is killing. I swear ive taken more falls in that garage than anyone else, couple broken kingpins, slideouts, now this. Oh, well, it was a great time anyway, good to see the dongster come out and show us all how its done. James, you were killing it, laying down some really impressive times. looking forward to next week, assuming the weather stays the same. Youre not traveling for the holiday weekend, are you?
pavedwave

Good to see you there again Dave, you're getting consistently faster yourself!

Here's best times from 11-29:

Corey Moy: 9.167
Brad Jackman: 9.284
James Peters: 9.360
John Stryker: 9.782
Patrick Alldred: 10.124
Dave Johnson: 10.519
GForce Glenn: 12.158

Amazingly enough it looks like it might be dry enough this coming weekend for some outdoor slalom, so I'll touch base with Brad and check the Puyallup pulse before Sunday.
SoloRider

What's the word on tomorrow?  Blake and I have talk carpooling...
pavedwave

Hey Sean, it's on like the Gulf of Oman - 8 a.m. tomorrow
pavedwave

Last week was insanely cold and I think the times reflected that.

Of course our first suspicion was that there must have been something wrong with the timing system, so we played with multiple alternate configurations-- swapping wires, using Gareth's and Stryker's backup timing boxes, refreshing the batteries, re-testing the wires, and double-verifying the start and finish strips were taped down on the regulation lines.    After ruling out all technical explanations for our slower than average times, I've came to the only feasible conclusion:  the viscocity of our bearing oil increased.   And I can beat Brad as long as he has swine flu.

James Peters   9.710
Brad Jackman   9.726  (with swine flu)
Patrick Alldred   9.850
Dave Johnson   10.650
Dave Addington   10.763
Gforce Glenn   12.529

7:30 a.m. tomorrow!
pavedwave

Heading down there to set up at 7:30... slalomkid spencer should be there and there's even talk of a Dano appearance?

Last week:

Corey Moy   9.316
Brad Jackman   9.351
James Peters   9.556
John Stryker   9.864
Dave Johnson   10.582
Gforce Glenn   12.127
Tim Eney   12.398
SoloRider

This isn't exactly on topic but it's as good a place as any for me to be asking some questions.  What sort of wheelbase is everyone running?  James, what's the width of your Shitbird?  How much wedging to start(FT-RTS and RTS)?
