New LDP Setup - modded S9, any advice?Hi Guys,
Having come second in every distance race i've entered down here in New Zealand, I have decided to see if LDP can help me get that elusive first place!
I had an old unused sector 9 deck which I have modified a bit at the nose and set up with bennet, rts & khiro stuff.
bushings are:
front: khiro orange & white barrels + blue cone
back: venom green barrel, stock tracker black cone
angles are 15 + shockpad at front, 10 + shockpad at back
wheelbase... not sure, but when i line it up to my 38'' vangaurd, the wheels are almost exactly inline.
I'm thinking of decreasing the wedging a tad - got any other suggestions?

Hey, are you the Ultraskate Richard?!
Nice setup-- how does the front feel to you right now? If it just feels too turny, then reduce the wedging a notch, it will give you more return, though you'll have to invest a little more power as a result.
The biggest thing I see (assuming I'm seeing correctly) is you're running 70mm zigzags, which are fine-- but to maintain a faster clip over the long run, I'd absolutely bump up to 75mm--77mm wheels, either BigZigs or SpeedVents. This will make the biggest difference in speed, and that's what you're after!
Check the wheelbase when you can, I tend to run most LDPs in the 28"--30" range-- you might want 27"-28" for the "short" 1-milers, and 29"-30" for the marathon++ length rides, based on the bigger cadence involved. Just ideas, I'm not hugely competitive but that would be my strategy come race day.
Welcome!

Hi James,
Yes I did the ultraskate and looking forward to the next one!
They are in fact 75mm 80a bigzigs.
So basically I can't blame my setup? doh!
Thanks for the advice, I will check my wheelbase and keep practising - 30 days til race day!
Where exactly do you measure from?

Cool, looked like you guys had an insanely good time on that ultra. What race is coming up?? summer in NZ...
For the deck's wheelbase: measure from the inside front bolt hole to the inside rear bolt hole, you can do this on top of the deck easiest if the trucks are already mounted.
There are some who still consider the "true" wheelbase a measurement of hangar to hangar, but that's just more confusing than useful. Best to measure things that remain a known entity (the DECK's wheelbases/drill holes do not change) then qualify the overall experience based on the other variables you add to it -- i.e, type of truck.
At the same time-- it may be useful to keep in mind that a Bennett front versus a Randal front will add "xx" inches to the distance between your hangars (but it ain't wheelbase)

The race coming up is a 10km distance race in Tauranga:

Should be a lot of fun!
Did a very rough measurement, looks like it's a touch under 30'' between the innermost bolt holes so that should be just right.
Thanks for the help,
Rich
