Orangata....
.....inb4pavedwave
*ahem*
Lime Bigzigs will work nicely for you. Be careful of hanger bite though. Also consider Bottle Green 'Gators.
I'm thinking to switch back to Lime gibzigz, since my inheats get coned pretty damn quick for an LDP setup, even though they're nicer.

whatever dude! i'm not 'against' orangatangs, i just don't plunk down $60 or more on new wheels based on hype until I hear actual race-proven results and performance feedback beyond "They have kool youtube video" -- and all the anti-Chaput stuff from people who don't even know the guy, is irritating as well. I keep hearing people saying they're tossing out their BigZigs, Pfffffff... this isn't some "back to school sale" item -- they're wheels, wheels that Scoot just rode to another 1st place finish at Maryhill on.
when i DO hear some reviews with substance, that grabs my attention, and i wasn't even going to "buy into" the BLACK OPS thing until I came across some seriously convincing timing-racing comparison data from Gary Fluitt, and positive impressions from Dong and Gareth -- all of them backed up the speeds, rebound, and durability of the new Seismic thane, so I've been riding the BlackOps and comparing them to Zigs for the last couple weeks. my buddy Patrick and I have actually been going freaking nuts riding the 80a and 83a's. Patrick said they're the fastest wheels he's been on (coupled with the fact he's testing out my Medium-stiff Mermaid, which was too stiff for my tastes) And I've been experiencing some pumps on them where the board almost shoots out from under my feet...something kinda wicked going on there!
anyway -- in the end, there's always gonna be the point that out pumping and cruising LDP trails doesn't necessarily call for the latest and greatest. yet we still want what "works best" and usually the only empirical evidence around are race performances.
for LDP on bumpy roads I'd stay in the 80a or lower durometers, like either Pink Gumballs, Pink or Lime Zigs, or light blue 80a BlackOps. those are what I know and have tested. i'm sure the 'tangs are fine too.
I'm also hearing really good things about the Earthwing Superballs -- just haven't tested them yet.
and congrats on getting your Mermaid!! hope to see some pics once you're all set up. really want to hear how that narrow truck works in the back for you, and how the flex fits.

lol j/k pavedwave. don't take it too seriously.
I'm moving away from otangs as LDP wheels too. They cone way too fast than it should be. Not a good thing.
Before that, i have to do the cyber mile though.
As for superballs, they're plushy, but haven't really ridden them for a long distance. Rebound is okay, and extremely grippy. No such thing as rear truck drift while pumping hard.
They're not really 82a, it's more 80a.
If the terrain's bumpy, might as well as using superballs.
did i say hangerbite? i meant wheelbite.
...or baseplate.

I love my superballs. I also love my o-tangs, and my bigzigs. Best one.....they all rock. black ops are rad as well. I'd say pick a color because performance wise you won't see a difference until you get wayyyy more skilled. Superballs look sick on my mermaid though.

Taking things too seriously is an entirely different frame of mind from the alternative, which is, spending a lot of free time thinking about and testing out what makes one particular wheel -- its urethane recipe and molding -- fuse together to form a product that the largest number of people on average perform better on than another.
The advantages may be minute, but some of these people I ride with are tracking those advantages -- down to the tenths and hundreths of a second. I don't just dismiss that kind of effort. These are the thought processes of a team of engineers (who all just so happen to race skateboards) and it's because of their tracking and testing that products get even better.
It's great that more wheels are coming on the scene -- it's the very best thing that can happen to make those paying attention to the details succeed.
Now after hearing genuine, positive vibes repeatedly, I'm intrigued about the Superballs, as far as rough trails are concerned, sounds like they would feel like a shaved-down Avila. And I still like those!

Try the superballs, you'll really like it for rough trails. slightly more affordable than avilas.
I like mine radiused.
