Haha awesome
So just yesterday I finally spelunked deep down in the garage looking for my last pavedwave tees, and came up dry. I might end up ordering another set. I think it ran something like $150 for the tees and the printer cost for that first run, and I gave 'em all away mainly at events.
Got three requests to purchase one, after they were gone!!
Thanks for the ideas
I'm thinking short and simple, like
DO YOU LDP?

Hey, don’t ostracize the pushers. I want a tee shirt, and it needs to be an XXL. Here are my slogans.
“One less bike”
“work to eat, eat to live, live to skate, skate to work, ”
Love the new forum thing you got going James. I check out your site a bunch more now b/c of this.

I DIG IT! I recently ordered 50 Large, I'll see if they can throw in any extra XXL they have kickin around??
Might be cool to have this repeated along the back of the shirt top to bottom!?
WORK TO EAT
EAT TO LIVE
LIVE TO SKATE
SKATE TO WORK
WORK TO EAT
EAT TO LIVE
LIVE TO SKATE
SKATE TO WORK
WORK TO EAT
EAT TO LIVE
LIVE TO SKATE
SKATE TO WORK

Throw up a quick version of what they would look like!
Then the other thing, how do we get our paws on some?

I'm going to go with the simple logo on front.
Possibly some text on the back, like
"DO YOU LDP?" or
"WANNA LDP?" or
"HOW LONG CAN YOU KEEP IT UP?"
or that chain-text slogan of Mark's...
Keeping the color scheme to 1, possibly 2 colors at most ($$). Either black or red on Island Yellow. Hoping to have these by next weekend's Ultraskate!!
This is the first run... red on black.

Sweet ideas-- thanks again fellas. I'm gonna have to consider those on the next run, each time it costs a bit more for each unique camera-ready artwork + text run on the back... I got these printed up in time for the end of last week's Ultraskate. Subsonic Scotty trucked them up along with some wicked new boards he's been tinkering on.
Anyhoo, here's the second run of tees!
They're all size Large, just to keep it simple, and 50-50 poly-cotton.
Gonna charge $15 per shirt, yellow or white, shipped to the US 48 states, and all the initial proceeds go toward paying off the shirts, after that, it goes to LIVESTRONG.
The other deal is $25 for both shirts, one yellow, one white. Again, pavedwave.org is a non-profit so everything goes into getting out of the red (red is all I've seen so far) then the rest will go into LIVESTRONG for this run of shirts.
My paypal addy is jampet99 @ comcast.net.
Two of Seattle's male models, Barefoot Ted and Brad Jackman, demonstrate the versatility of the LDP shirt. It's not only for longboarding, but can also be worn in restaurants, among friends, eating pancakes.
The LDP shirt will take you places you never dreamed about, and add years to your life, when worn and treated with care and respect.

hey, I'm a biker!!! one less vote for one less bike!!! can I anti-vote for it?
I do like the simple LDP and pavedwave design... that would make people ask what it is...
ps- I will buy a shirt as long as it doesn't say one less bike

yes I made the simple design as shown in this pic, and it does get people asking questions about LDP!!

I surveyed the "one less bike" phrase with a number of people, coworkers, friends, bikers etc., to gauge their reaction, and although they thought it was kinda edgy and funny, the message I personally want to deliver over the long haul is human powered alternative transportation is one easy way we can all help take care of our Earth, so in that sense, I encourage any form of human-aided transport, over a gas guzzling car.
One of my main strategies to encourage longboarding specifically is to continue joining as many established distance biking events as possible, like the STP this coming weekend. We've also recently been accepted to longboard in the Seattle Bike Century in the end of July, AND at the same time have been rejected acceptance to ride in another biking event (RAPSody) which I requested permission to join -- for legitimate, well-explained legal reasons. So there is a little bit of work that's been going on in the background in order to gain acceptance to join these bike-centric events, and Cascade.org has been extremely supportive and open to our longboarding cause. That's another reason I steered away from the 'one less bike' shirt, though I still like the idea. If we ever fall out of Cascade's good graces, then I'll definitely do it

I also have a response to gboom's "don't ostracize the pushers" comment LDP= Long Distance Pumping
LDP= Long Distance Pushing
there's your answer

Racer128...fair enough. I don't want pushers ostracized, and there I go picking on bikers. I meant it jokingly. But honestly, a lot of times that you are on your board is time that you are not on your bike. Just like bikers are not in their cars.
I don't know if James will share the LDP badge with pushers...maybe we can have the LDp, or ldp.
Or we could share LDP^2. That is LDP with the P squared. That could be cool, it suggests an exponential synergy between pushing and pumping.

So, whats the price gonna be to those outside of CONUS(boo on conUS )
Flat rate boxes same price across the nation, regardless of water or not.
What about something instead of one less bike, something like one less car? It would be all about more human powered like you said, an then have like a basic graphic of a bike, skateboard, what else have you...surf board

yeah Mark I totally take the "one less bike" thing with its intended humor, I still think its great wit, and I'd still consider printing a limited number of those later. With that message, I would just make the typeface a lot smaller and more subtle
You're right, the "P" in LDP will always mean only Pumping, in my book!! And Racer, first let me preface all of this by saying none of my upcoming speech here is directed at you, it's been a thought process I've had stored up for a long while. Oh boy, here comes the philosophy.
I've been seeing "long distance pushing" mentioned out on other forums...which to me sounds plain silly. My feeling is, does pushing a skateboard a long way, really need an acronym? Seems like "distance longboarding" or "distance skateboarding" takes care of it. Kind of plain and simple. I think in most people's minds, the pushing aspect is implied, when you tell someone you're skating long distances. At least that's definitely the way I perceive it.
In complete contrast, LDP stands out uniquely because Long Distance Pumping is truly something that has evolved in THIS decade, it takes a whole new way of thinking. Quite frankly, it blows many people's minds. You've got to have the desire to sweat a little to get bigger rewards as you improve, as you learn a fast, huge pumping cadence that you just can't get out of a little slalom pump board. It takes commitment to look like a fool while you're struggling up hills that you know you'd really be better off just pushing -- but you don't because you're committed to improving your pump!!
With the vast improvements in long, snappy, responsive longboards and even more importantly, the fact that nobody "back in the day" was truly committed to long distance flatland pumping, the way they were committed to parks, freestyle, slalom, high jumps, downhilling, vert, etc.., etc., for this reason, I believe LDP is truly unique. And I've skated with enough "old farts" from the 70's who are hip enough to recognize when something new has evolved in skateboarding. And several have embraced it. I think over time it's going to become even clearer just how addictive and powerful (and FUN) the pursuit of LDP can be.
Alright, stepping off the soapbox

No, the one less bike thing is really funny. The bikers have one less car, skaters should have one less bike. haha. I was kinda joking in my response... I might actually wear a one less bike shirt, just not out to the trail or races =)

Well stated James. Excellent points. I love that you pulled the old school stuff on an old guy like me. I yield. The "P" shall forever remain PUMPING.
Now, what are we going to do with folks like me who
1. love your site
2. love what you are up to
3. love communicating with more educated and more technical skaters
4. love using skating as a form of commuting and running errands
5. love the atmosphere here, but may not have a commute that lends itself to pumping
Maybe you could make the pools, parks and carving session....pools, parks, and carving....and pushing. Ouch, that would hurt .
Thanks again for the site James. Next beer is on me.

Nice to hear that Mark. I wasn't even thinking of you as an old guy quite frankly. There's really only been a couple of very vocal 'detractors' in the past (both from SoCal, go figure!) and one has since come around to understand LDP, the other is forever a doubter. And I like it. Because without the yang, there is no yin.
But I don't mean to pull any kind of exclusivity B.S. about pumping, Longboarding distances is an awesome endeavor, and LDP is simply one way to do it. It can be taken from the 5-mile commute to the 242 mile a day extreme. Or just up and skate around the entire planet, like Rob Thomson.
What I do think this forum needs is a section for people genuinely interested in building a dedicated pushing setup -- a subject which has been on my "GEAR" page since day one of the site. Subsonic's "Swerve" deck was my first drop-deck, then the rollsrolls, then the Evo. Boards like the bracket-system "Cambiar", the Seismic Stik, and the Earthwing Supercharger are in a different league, I think -- that of hybrid pusher/pumper. So for that reason they stay firmly entrenched in the LDP section
Might that next beer be in Portland next Sunday? Barefoot Ted is now joining me on the STP, so we should both be rolling in around 2--3 p.m.!
