Mermaid grip

Hi all, just a quick question. How long does your griptape on your Mermaid last for? I have had mine now for about 3 months, I haven't done any rain riding, though a couple of times I have had a body surf and skated to the beach showers a bit wet (barefoot). My griptape seems fine at the back but my front foot has slipped a couple of times, right when I am pumping hard.

Is this typical of Mermaid grip? Not too worried as I have no probs, regripping a deck (good excuse to come up with a funky pattern Cool ), just curious.

On that note, anyone feel like posting any pics of a funky griptape pattern that they have done? Be cool to see what others have done.

After 3-4 months I added a layer of a more coarse grip tape directly over the old one, just in the front. It does the job, but it wasn't creative or anything.

How did that stick? I would imagine that the griptape glue would stick better to the deck than the old grip tape... did it last long?

I guess I'm a little lazy and didn't want to regrip the entire deck, but it's still holding on nicely after a couple of months. It's a 4-inch wide strip going across the front truck, but not covering the red stripe. I made sure I cleaned the old grip tape really well before putting it down. I tried to set it by using a hair dryer after application and I didn't ride it for 24 hours.

edit 9/1: add photos
on the bottom is my slippery skates ldp with gravity clear, until it stopped gripping so i added edger on top

To help the new grip take stick better, you could sand the old grip smooth. i.e. take most of the rough grit off.

I tend to take all of the grip off, however long it takes, and completely grip the deck again. I guess i just like the look as much as anything else.
