Hi there everyone.
I have a couple of questions. I hope that someone can help.

I'm working towards setting up a dedicated LDP board.
My questions are about wheels.

I have a lovely new set of Seismic Speedvents in Magenta (77mm and 75a) which I hope might be suitable for LDP.

But...

Q: is 75a too soft for LDP? I'm wondering if 75a will be too slow, and too much hard work compared to something over 80a. I'd swop the 75as for something harder if I need to.

Q: are Retro BigZigs much superior for LDP with their fancy 'reflex' urethane? Again I'll trade the Seismics in for BigZigs if I'm told that the BigZig 'reflex' urethane is the must-have.

I appreciate the advice of any of you experienced LDP'ers.

I don't have any experience with the Seismics, but as far as the reflex 'thane, it's not overrated, it's the real deal. As far as the duro, you should consider the surfaces you'll be riding on. If the roads are in good condition you should be fine with a wheel in the 80-83a range, especially if it's in the 75mm diameter range and has good urethane depth. I have some 75a Grippins and although I wouldn't describe them as fast, I don't think it's a lot of work to keep them going. They're nice and smooth over average roads. 77a BZigs are faster, however.

I now realise that the Speedvents weren't really what I was after - so I got myself some 70mm Lime Zigzags and they are just the ticket! Took it out for a ride this afternoon and I was really flying Laughing

my opinion it is also a question of own weight and the temperatures, winter or summer...
And "black oops" mixture is definitively better than other seismic!

One thing that I've noticed with my 79a 77mm SpeedVents is that they are not as cushy as I would have expected them to be over less than ideal surfaces. Stocago explained to me the theory of this being due to the fact that Vents are only a relatively thin layer of urethane over a very large plastic core, while the BigZigs are solid urethane, which makes perfect sense. I have been able to compare my 79a Vents with the 77a BigZigs, and here are my subjective impressions:

1. My rear wheels stick far more with the Vents, even over poor surfaces, despite them having a harder duro. The Vents are fast!
2. The BigZigs were far cushier than the Vents over poor surfaces
3. I was disappointed with the BigZigs lack of traction for how soft they were, yet their ride was smooth and the traction issues can be resolved with a better rear truck setup.
4. I enjoyed the more predictable manner in which the BigZigs slide

In all, the Vents are a wheel best suited for good surfaces, and being that is the case, it would have been preferable to go with a harder duro.

I'm thinking that the Pink BZs might be the wheel of choice for the Ultraskate!
