Indy or Paris KP for Bennett?

Does anyone know if either Indy or Paris KPs will fit Bennetts?  I just realized that they are both splined also like the Bennett.  Not sure about Paris', but Indy's are grade 8.  It looks like the Indy is 2".  Is that comparable in length to the Bennett?  I haven't measured the Bennett yet.

i think it's an indy pin that i pulled to slap into a bennett once.  i'll try to get john galac on the line here -- he's mentioned his solution on this before, it involves a slightly shorter pin which is better, because it helps reduce that pin high centering, which I'm sure you must have experienced by now.

I have certainly experienced that.  Thanks for checking into this for me and other KP sufferers.

Hey James, I made it it... Very Happy
Here my trick that I use on bennetts.
I go buy a 2 1/2" Grade 8 Kingpin.
I pound out the original Bennett kingpin.
Then I reassemble the truck with the new kingpin
and nut, but I put the nut in the baseplate and the kingpin
inverted up into the baseplate. after I have it reassembled,
I use JB WELD Putty to fix the nut into the baseplate.
Allow it to cure for 24 hours and.. Viola.....
This keeps the kingpin from sticking out when you run heavily
wedged Bennetts, which can be a serious problem, I've been
slammed into the road when I hit something with that kingpin
doing 20mph.. Insta-Stop, your board stops, you go flying...
This helps a ton, and keeps your kingpin from getting the threads chewed and mangled...
Here's some pics.

Sweet.  Thanks!!!  I'll try it out.

thanks for the details John!   now, I have to ask something... I didn't realize you were inverting the pin, thought it was substituting a shorter pin.  since the threads are now positioned at the point of entry through the baseplate, I'm a little curious if you think that might put additional stress on the threaded part?

I'm increasingly curious to see exactly where Jim's kingpin snapped...

so while this solves the really bad kingpin-scrapage-and-toss you on your butt issue, I'm wondering if it might be a slightly weaker configuration from a kingpin-shearing standpoint?   does that make sense?   I'm hoping to be tinkering with this, in the coming days...

Well, I decided to chance being thrown and JB welded my KP in the "normal" position.  Since I broke the Bennett KP on the thicker non-threaded section actually about 3mm within the BS, I decided that any additional strength would be in my best interest.  I'll definitely try this with the Bennetts that I have on my surf cruiser.  I don't place as much pressure on them as I do when pumping.  Plus, I'll like not hanging up on edges when riding banks and the like.

How Do All Wink

Please can anyone tell me what the Orange and White Bushing is below the Bones Hardcore bushings on John's setup in the pictures above?

I have emailed John but just thought I would ask here also.

Thank you.
Take care,

I don't know why Bennett did not mold the nut in the base plate. Like they do on the Trackers or all pre splined kingpin trucks . If it's in the base plate it easier to repair the truck. The only reason I think they went to splined king pin trucks is to make the trucks weigh less.

It is stronger if the shank is set in the baseplate. The thread cuts are a natural point of failure. That is why JP was asking. I basically do the same thing in reverse. Use a 2.5" grade 8 kp with a little 2-ton 2 part white epoxy on the bolt head inside the baseplate to keep it from moving. But I am 200+lbs, so I take extra precautions. My kp's don't break now, so I don't care if it takes longer to swap them out.

And dang, it takes an elephant fart to get those Bennett kp leftovers out of the baseplate once it has broken. I did figure out the you have to use the broken part of the kingpin to hammer it out. Worked pretty well. Just set the baseplate on a piece of soft wood to hammer out the kp. It will hold it in place without using a vice and scratching it all up.

Looks like a cut down Orange Khiro but not sure about the white bit  Confused

Cheers for that mate, I did just hear back from John, It is a cut down Khiro and a Nylon washer, it was the Nylon washer that threw me and made me think it was another make of bushing.

Anyone try hack sawing the original kingpin to length then re-threading using a tap & dye set?
