VANILLA GUERILLA

how hard is it to get subsonic to respond?

I e-mailed him a couple days ago about a setup and haven't heard back from him. I don't want to bug the guy so I thought I would ask you folks who might have dealt with him in the past. Also, if anyone knows the turn around time on either a Subsonic pulse or a Roe Racing Mermaid that'd be greatly appreciated.

When I ordered my board Scott was very good about responding to emails. Once or twice he didn't seem to receive my message. Since it's a holiday week maybe he's busy or out of town. It took 3 weeks for me to get my Pulse.

Took 6 weeks to get my Mermaid.  Well worth the wait.

How Do All Wink

I have emailed Scott several times via his  email address and his response form on his web site. I have now been waiting for several weeks for a reply, I have decided not to bother with the Pulse 40 now as I have a LBL Walkabout and I am planning on ordering a Roe Mermaid instead of the Pulse.
I was also thinking about buying one of Scott's Slalom boards but after waiting so long to hear about the Pulse I went with a Skaterbuilt Mike Maysee Hybrid deck, and had that fitted out and delivered to my work by Michael from Octane Sports Personally, you can't beat that for service.

I can only hope that the reason Scott has not replied to me is because he has not received my mails, I would have been happy if he mailed me and said he could not make me a deck otherwise, rather than ignoring me Sad

Sorry For moaning,
Take care,
Barry Wink

How Do all Wink

Update to my previous post:
Just this morning I have had a reply back from Scott at Subsonic, coincidence or what.
As I have now bought decks from different suppliers I will have to just imagine what the Pulse 40 would be like to ride untill I can justify shelling out for one in the future, nevermind.
I am however extremely happy with the  LBL and Skaterbuilt decks I have bought.

If you really want a Subsonic deck all I can say is; Be Patient if you can, Scott will contact you eventually.

Take care,
Barry Wink

thanks for being patient you guys, with both of these builders, Subsonic and Roe.   they're both really busy people, but I've been hearing increasingly good stories over the last half year -- of shorter wait times, and improvements in responses by emails.   i know more than anyone else just how it can drive you nuts sometimes to wait... in fact -- Barry you've heard back from Scott and I'm still waiting!!

as many of you know, for both Gareth and Scott this is completely a one-man show.  they press, cut, shape, grip, and ship every single board they make.   and both of them are amazing craftsmen.

Scott studied the arts and used to do really ornate Asian-influenced wooden picture framing in a past life.  and it shows, it's amazing what he can do completely free-hand with wood and a sander.  wood is like clay in his hands.   not only that, he's had a lot of concepts and experiments in the past that he's stayed really low-key about.   the guy never hypes himself (he needs to a little more!!)  and let's his boards speak for themselves.   so it takes riders who appreciate quality to spread the good word for him.

and Gareth has the whole press and building technology thing down pat.  he "led the pack" in the early 2000 slalom revival, with the boards he built for himself, and has never been secretive about many aspects of the technology he brought here.   in fact many who know him well say that he shared it all, and never took credit -- and I've seen this over and over in the years I've known him.

i'm just stoked to hear more stories like this, glad to see the ship times get more consistently shorter, and glad to see people getting out on these summer days!!  thanks again for sharing.

Well, earlier in the year, I ordered a Pulse 40 (June 9 or 10) and received it exactly one month later (July 9).  I however, did not have any correspondence with him about that board.  I just ordered it directly from the site.

Recently though, i've been trying to get a build together for a completely custom board - not one that you can ordered directly from the site, and that has been a little bit slower going.  I actually got an email response back from him in 5 days, and sent another one back.  I have heard back from him since the second response.  I've tried calling several times only to get the answering machine.

If you check his site, you'll see that he's been slammed with orders from the summer crowd.  That, and one of the major slalom comps is coming up at the end of this month.  Chances are that he's prepping his booth for that.  I heard that earlier in the winter - Feb to March - turn around time was around 2 to 3 weeks, now it's more like 4 to 6 weeks.

I figure the best thing is to be patient if you really want a Subsonic board.  I was amazed by the craftsmanship quality of the Pulse 40 I received and believe it's totally worth the wait.  Many "off the shelf" boards charge roughly the same price that he charges and they're not customized or tailored to fit you as the rider at all.  So, what you pay for is time, but it's definitely worth it.  I only hope I can get a hold of him soon, as I'd like to get another board from him by the end of September, which means I need to get my "special" order in right about now.
