How 'dead' do you run the rear?

I'm going on a ride this evening with my setup adjusted a little bit... I stuck and additional -4' riser in the rear in on top of its previous -8. A zip around the parking lot proves that it still pumps, but I'm curious to see what this does to me on hillier sections of my home trail. I figure I'll help me be able to put more power down at the base of the hill while I still have a head of steam, but as I continue climbing I hope I'll be able to maintain a pump once that momentum is gone. I could before on all but one or two impossible hills. I think it could only help flat/downhill performance but we'll see. I will report back!

Well, that sucked. Did great at higher speed but I couldn't keep it up and around cruising speed felt like I was stuck in high gear. Now where's my tool kit...

hey bryan - that sounds pretty close to the same ratio how i dewedge the back vs. front, of course you're running randal in back right? so thats a slightly different ballgame.

my cruising speeds around 10--13mph, as far as downhill goes (20--35mph) i tend to just tighten down the rear bushing a bit if I expect a lot of it. but usually running even flatland pump setups pretty snug in the back. thats where it really helps to have a snappy bushing like stims/khiro/radikal...

whoo hoo! second post! Wink

I have a red khiro barrel bottom and blue khiro barrel top on the Randal. Its actually a Randal baseplate and Paris hangar. The bennett has a blue cone + orange barrel bottom and white barrel on top. I have a 150mm seismic I could try on the rear but its not with me at the moment.

I know you are running offset rear hangars and DH baseplates, so you would be running those flat or close to flat? If you had an additional -12 wedge under that then yours would be (50-35) -15' more than my Randal. I don't think its the latter as that would not be a "similar ratio" as you said.

In the mean time it seems like it would make sense for me to try a middle ground between -8' and -12' as -8 seemed a little too carvy at times.

Maybe I could try shortening my wheelbase a little bit. Inner bolt hole distance is 29.5". What is your WB? This can make a pretty defined difference, no?

Thanks James.

yeah actually i've been running the RTS on the back of my LBL the most lately, thats the setup i'm thinking of when compared to yours.

i haven't really figured out what the exact angles are for my split-axle rears, so far i've been rather unscientific about it -- i kinda stick with what feels good from slalom and that seems to be DH plate with just slight dewedge.

yessir, WB change will make quite a difference in the stride of your ride. especially once you're up to cruising speeds of 13--15mph and hitting bigger pumps. i find anywhere in the 27--29" WB to be just about right myself, so seems to reason a guy who's 6-foot or taller with a bigger stride might bump up his WB comfort zone to 29--31"...and of course a lot boils down to preference.

Hey.

Ordering a couple of things from stoked skateboards because Norway has nothing but Indy, krux and ... yeah that's basically it.

When you refer to RTS I'm guessing you mean the turny truck of a pair of trackers. I am however unable to guess which tracker trucks you mean.
I am like previous visitors looking for something to call my back truck. The truck should preferably be available from www.stokedskateboards.com, which is every truck from the site www.raxusa.com .

Many thanks to you all for all the good reads on this forum, not to mention the website. It is from these sources I've selected the Bennett 5.0'' as my front truck. The big decision between black and silver has yet to be made.

Please guide me in a peaceful and pump-able direction.

P.S.
Around January Rayne had a 50% sale on blemished decks, so I ordered a Timeline reading it was partly designed for pumping. However after reading about how wheelbase and length play a vital role in the art of LDP I got very insecure about my purchase.

How wrong might I've gone with buying this as a possible LDP or MDP deck?

hey jat, welcome--

the RTS is the more stable one, usually its RTX front.   RTS works nicely in the back.  I also ride a conventional Indy sometimes, and obviously the splitfires, but only because I collected a handful of em in slalom  Wink  not a requirement by any means.

Be very happy with that Timeline, sounds like you got a killer deal -- and they ride nice.  I've been on a buddy's here in Seattle and it pumps great~!    Later on as you progress, you might feel like you want longer strides, bigger pumps, then get ready for your 2nd deck  Smile

cheers

You have a good way of describing these amazing truck logics. In a calm, but still enthused manner.
And yes, it's very early in the morning which is why I start my post with some nice and irrelevant information.

So, I have a pair of indy 149's. How amazing is their pump potential? And back to the trackers, I see that the RTS Racetracks is a part of the more expensive choice of the LBL walkabout. Would you recommend this truck more than another truck or vice versa?

I'm not going for a split fire just yet. It looks awesome though.

Btw.
I can't access the webpage http://www.asphaltplayground.com/
Is it spelt wrong? Is it only accessible to U.S. IP's? Or is the site down?

EDIT:
Just had to play around with the URL
http://www.asphaltplayground.com/trucks.html

And I found a little nirvana of truckshttp://www.sk8kings.com/Mer...;Store_Code=S&Category_Code=T
