Flatland LDP trucksI recently decided to reconfigure an old friend and need some advice on choosing trucks for flat LDP. I have an old 48" Think Joel Tudor (8" wide), with relatively stiff flex. I purchased a set of Retro Zigzags 70mm today. I looked at the Carver C7's and CX's as well as the Bennetts, but can't decide. I wouldn't mind using different trucks front and back, but it's not always easy to buy that way. Any info would be great.Thanks. |

another good site for single trucks (and truks) is www.solidskate.com personally i'd still recommend a bennett 5.0 truk on front and a tracker RTS 129mm in the rear - you'll want to play around with some softer/snappier bushings in front and something a little more rigid in the back. i still like CX's, but they're just a different type of ride, i've gotten so used to bennetts now and they ride a little bit lower as well. |

I'm slowly changing my stock Sector 9 Joel Tudor (38' X 8') to an LDP quiver: Changed the wheels to lemon bigzigs and played a bit with different bushing configurations (still working on that). Next step would be angled risers and then axles. Thinking of putting a Bennett in the front.
Question: One of the (very young) guys I usually skate with said I really shouldn't put a Bennett on my board because it's too narrow and it would be too unstable. He's quite a good skater and usually does everything (sliding, slalom, pools... only thing he doesn't do is LDP  ) on a 29' mini with Bennetts (seen him doing it on longer boards also). Is this true, would they be too unstable? I live in Barcelona (think sea + mountains) so I have to do a couple of downhill slopes before getting to flatland.

hey welcome- I'd recommend starting out with 5.0", but just note that if you like the 4.3" it will work too, it really boils down to which one you like for the majority of your ride-time. you can make a narrow truck work for you on hills. both Ted and I had 4.3"'s on our 200+ mile cross-state ride last year which includes a number of 30-40mph hills. on a board that's set up mostly to turn sharp and fast, people often think it's just inherently unstable on big hills. I've found if you just maintain an "edge", never pointing the board directly straight downhill, and footbraking well, you can get just about any board down a big hill safely. but again if you expect a lot of gravity you might like the 5.0 better. |

Hola Jorge Luis, benvingut. IMO I think the Bennett 5.0 is best suited for the big hills you've got in Barcelona.
