carver CX stance

As opposite to other trucks, i have the feeling that riding far on the front is not so good with carver CX. It seems to generate more power with the front foot behind the truck bolts. Typically, the toe stop would better fit on the rear bolt. When in the classical front bolt position, i feel that the truck is dead although it is very turny. Does anybody share this experience ?
By the way, i have to say that my wheelbase is 33", which could be a fundamental parameter in the equation.

Although I haven't been riding my CX's much lately, I've found the same to be true, standing just behind the front truck most of the time to power forward just like surfing.

One board maker in Seattle,  Fred from derfdesigns.com shapes his boards based in large part on this "feel", especially his 47" Fish and Hybrid shapes -- and he's become a huge fan of the CX's.

Thanks for the pictures. I already knew the derfdesign's website. The boards look very great and to be honest, I guess these gave me the envy of trying again my Cx. I first tried them about 10 months ago then stopped and I was curious to give them a second chance as I had the feeling of improving my pumping technique.
Finally I gave up. I still don't understand why they are considered as great values for distance pumping. I agree with the basic feeling of easy pump but when I ride several kilometers, it feels like I have to give energy without a rest. I can not find the feeling of just following and amplifying a natural movement. I feel much more comfortable with my Holeys and reversed Avilas so that the effective width is reduced. I only use a single khiro wedging pad on front and on rear (dewedged).
I had reduce my pumping practice because the two last months were very rainy and icy in the north of France. Instead, I focused on distance pushing using a loaded dervish and 97mm flywheels. Well, alternate pushing along the distance is more technical as it looks like but I'm enjoying it also.
Happy new year from Lille.

Mimosa, i do agree with your comments. Few months ago I bought a pair of CX based on many good comments. I tested them quite a bit, using stopping toe at the front and rear bolts' truck, different wedging combinations, including wheels too. They are very turny but for LDP i was very dissapointed.

CX are not for me.

Thanks and Happy 2008

Mimosa, great to hear from you -

Starting on Randals and Trackers, then riding the CX for a couple years, I've definately moved over to Bennetts/Splitfires/Airflows as my own personal choice in setup.   But the CX's have their place in capturing the surfing feel, and my friend Munson still convinces me by proof of his riding, that they still work great for some.   He set a couple of the fastest times on his  (the 1-mile and the 25-mile)

Now I just ride mine occasionally in parking lots and slashing around, smaller wheels and smaller setup, having fun...so it really does boil down to preference.

Happy New Year!

Hi to all!
I am intersted Carver trucks. Has seen pump's video(here forum) about it. And Studied their principle on site Carver manufacturer too.
About C7 i have understood all - It is  easy but slow pump  Rolling Eyes with the expressed surf feel.
But as to CX. I doubt that they have essentialy differences from Randall's typical trucks...
I pump the long Sector 9 BH with Gullwing trucks 10''.
Forward truck have 10' degree wedge for best turn.
If i setup CX trucks (without degree wedge) , whether i shall be feel increase of turn?

 Thanks  Smile

Hey Dub
Although I haven't been riding the CX's much anymore  (mostly because I was eating up bushings too quickly on them)  they do feel quite different from a Randal truck.   The turns might feel easier than a Randal, though I think you end up losing some stability when you take the setup past speeds of 25mph++

The main difference is that the Carver CX hangar "swivels" behind the kingpin, instead of pivoting on it like a see-saw, as happens with a Randal-like reversed kingpin truck.    Carver's tech page has actually improved a lot over the years -- when I was riding them, they didn't even publish anything about the CX.    http://carverskateboards.com/techinfo/cx.php

Hope this might help!?
