Broadway Bomb - Robin THE LEG McGuirk's going!!Just spotted that Daddies Board Shop is sending Eastside Longboards Robin McGuirk to this!!
http://www.broadwaybomb.com/
Robin owns and runs Eastside Longboards and designs and builds his own decks, mainly downhill. Robin is 100% skater and an incredible distance athlete on the "shorter" course, he dominated the locally famous "Portland Pusher" series. He would dominate the half-marathon if we set one up proper. We might be doing this in Seattle next year.

At the moment thinking about starting in Redmond and ending in Kenmore -- the only sketchy part would be the zig-zagging through Bothell with the elderly, children, and chickens. It's either that or scouting out some section of the Interurban trail in south Seattle. Kenmore's kind of a cool end spot because there's a bowling alley and a few other places to hang out afterward.

I dont know if its manageable, but a lap based marathon in the velodrome would be kickass. I love the idea of distance racing but open courses make me nervous. Id hate for someone with less experience on the burke to mow down a 6 year old on a trike or get caught up in some dogs leash or any number of other calamities. Ive seen the kind of chaos that ensues at the start lines of major push races and i just dont know what open course around here could handle it. Maybe if we could 'unofficially close' a section of a trail or reserve the seattle international speedway or something. just my .02

yeah i was thinking about that to but the best course i can think of is like the 11 miles to mo'bo from gasworks but there has to be another course some were.

hey blake, the main reason I've ruled out Seattle side of the Burke is the number of intersections with busy traffic. if we started from Kenmore, it would be just after the first intersection east of Logboom park. if you map through that section of the trail there are very few high-volume traffic obstructions, in fact over the past two years they just completed a series of underpasses to avoid that issue. on top of that, the Eastside / Sammamish portion of the trail is wider, and the surface is far smoother. the eastside section of the trail significantly reduces the car-traffic danger. however Panda makes a valid point about trail etiquette and the busy Burke, sharing the trail with peds, dogs, cars, and high-speed bikers. there are still split-second judgement calls to make along a 13-mile stretch.
I've also thought maybe a single turnaround point, at the 6.55-mile mark. that might mean skating Woodinville to Redmond and back, then we have Redhook Brewery as our finish! best part of the trail too, surface and traffic-wise.

Congrats to Robin on a great race! I missed the race by half an hour but talked to him for a bit afterward. I'm pretty sure he was in the top 10, though I haven't seen any results yet.
