1/2 marathon - I'm doing it!

If you're confused, this started from a thread jack in the Broadway Bomb thread.

Sunday I'm going to ride from Red Hook towards Redmond until I hit the 6.55 mile mark then return for a well deserved beer.  I did just shy of 10 miles on Sunday, my longest continuous pump ride to date and I know I'm not ready for the 1/2 marathon but I'm just dumb enough to do it anyway.  I'm not racing, just riding(not that it should stop anyone else from going all out).  I figure it's a good warm up for Ultraskate, as if a real reason was needed.

I've talked to Blake about it and he's in, Fred(Redline) will be getting an email really soon to see if he's down.  Can I get a head count?  Who else is interested?  What time is best?  My wife's on call all day so anytime after 9:00 is great for me.
SkateKi

hey just so you know the brewery is around the 5.5 mile mark of the trail. if you want to hit the full 6.55, I would start at Wilmot park in Woodinville. James set up a perfect out and back half marathon with a turnaround at Wilmot, just south of the water fountain and bathrooms. Heading towards Redmond, you would turn around just past the 1 mile mark, immediately before crossing the bridge.

wish i could make it! i need to be home by 9am so i'm riding early. have a great ride.
blake

if you can give me a ride that would be great because i have no idea how to get there
SoloRider

SkateKi - good point, I hadn't check mileages yet but my idea was that if it was too short(as it is) I'd still start at the brewery and head a mile North before turning around and heading South to the trail start putting me back at Redhook right at the correct distance.  It's very important to me that there's a burger and beer waiting for me not far from the car.

Blake - No problem, I'd be happy to give you a ride.  BTW - Thinking about tonight for MLT, Thursday's a no-go.
blake

ok its all cool. i will email you later about the ride and what i will be riding and what not
LDPanda

Sundays are tricky for me becuase thats when the CSA slalom crew practices. But if, for whatever reason, practice is canecelled this week, id come out for a lil distance riding.
Redline

Not sure I can make the whole ride but I'd probably be down for a few miles.
I might be up for MLT tonight as well....I'll email u in a few.
pavedwave

sounds like a blast, and my sunday looks good now!   i think redhook opens at 11am so a start time of around 9:30 would be perfect, meeting at Wilmot park?
blake

sweet you better be there JP its been way to long
SoloRider

9:30 is perfect, I have to drop my wife off first thing, but I'm pretty sure that's at 7:30.  I'll know 100% tonight.
SoloRider

Alright!  9:30 works perfect.  I have to drop off my wife at UWMC at 8:00 then I can bust over to get Blake, head to the park, and still have enough time to assemble and tune his ride.  Starting at Wilmot will put us at Redhook at the right mileage, and that's great, but post burger and beer, how do I get back to my car exactly?

I guess I could always send Blake to go get it...
pavedwave

One thing we could do is start at Wilmot and end at Wilmot, then drive a couple minutes over to Redhook?

Here's the gmap plot:  http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3248618
SoloRider

That works too.  My last post was a little more tongue and cheek anyway but whatever we end up doing works for me.  Definitely start at the park at 9:30, what happens from there is just details so long as we get the mileage.
pavedwave

cool, I just snapped a couple shots of the start and turnaround that we did a few years back--   the only difference is we skated it starting in Marymoor.   i posted up on NWLB too, maybe someone else will show.    I do like the idea of finishing close to Redhook better!   Very Happy

btw, I'm treating this as just a ride-- just going at a regular commute pace, and my achilles is being weird so I'll probably push most of it mongo-switch.

LDPanda

So, how'd it go? Was a brisk morning for sure. Slalom went really well but I wish i could have been in both places at once. You guys have a good turnout?
SoloRider

It was great, we had seven people show, 4 pumpers and three pushers.  JP knocked it out in something like 1:05 and Blake and I were last at 1:28(Blake was holding back for my sake).  Five of us continued on to Redhook post ride for well deserved beer and burgers.

My longest pump ride to date!  Woohoo!

Photographic evidence that I made it to the turn around:

nice shot, and way to crank the ride out both you guys!    had a great time finishing the last few miles right alongside the "other" Derek  (didn't get his last name)  then Jesse followed up a few minutes later, then Munson-- our surprise last minute entry haha-- came cruising in cross stepping and chillin.   it was also good to meet Steve who a few of us until then only knew as "Timorne"

i hope you guys made it to Motion with Steve--  the minute I got home my kid already had her helmet on, so back on the Burke, we didn't get home until around 5-- pretty much all day out there!

cold weather but nice n' sunny -- that was a great plan Sean.  hope to do this again.

Well we don't have any official or unofficial half marathon thread, but this one seems appropriate.

News from the man who's been methodically cracking at the Miler.   I think we all have a particular course / distance that suits us best, the half marathon appears to be Stocago's for now!
