I have two seperate things about helmets I want to talk about. The first thing is a question about sizing. The second thing could be a discussion about safety. So here we go:

Sizing and bald head
I don't know how many people with a shaved/bald head are around here, but if so, please share your knowledge. I was wondering if people with this great haircut experience 'problems' with sizing. My headsize is 57,5 cm. The first helmet I ordered was L (57-59 cm) and was WAY too big. Right now I have a Bern watts size M (55-57 cm). With the winter thing inside it fits great, but when I  wear it 'summer' style it still kinda moves. Is this because it has no 'grip' on a head with no hair, or could it still be too big and should I look for even smaller helmets in the future?

EPS or multi-impact?
I've read alot about the safety issue on silverfish. I would like to know what you LDP'ers wear since the only things I do is LPD and cruising on the flats. Do you choose for the more comfortable multi-impact helmets or do you prefer the safer option of EPS? Do any of you guys have experience with smacking your head on the asphalt hard with a multi-impact helmet?

I've personally been wearing an EPS Pro-Tec "Classic Skate" helmet for the last 4-5 years, in XL for my big head.    Not sure what my head's actual cm circumference is, but what I find with Pro-Tec XL is that it fits nice and snug for the first few months, then as the "sweat + remove helmet + dry + sweat cycle" begins, the foam degrades and shrinks, making the helmet even more loose.   When they get too loose you just have to replace the foam.

For a long time I was tying a "doo rag" on my head using a cotton handkerchief to capture the sweat, make it grip my head a little better, and prolong the life of the internal foam, but tying the rag on was kind of a pain.    Then early this year I found a great solution for those of us saddled with the high IQ / bald gene:  these "BUFF" bandanas.  They're super thin and light, easy to throw on under the helmet and go.   Kind of spendy but I try to grab when they go on sale:

As for non-EPS, I'm not sure.   It's not the kind of thing I want to experiment with much, since I've already done the non-helmet head crash thing and it's no fun.   I've been tempted by the look of the helmet that Jason Mitchell has re-made famous, the flyaway, but wasn't sure if there was a safety compromise.   They make no claim to the safety of it:  http://www.kanoasurf.com/ABOUT_KANOA_SURF.html

This is my plan for next year  (and going to talk Ted into it):

Haha great picture, I wish I could grow something like that but (un)fortunatly I'm born with the superhero gene you mentioned. Using a bandana is a great tip, I'm gonna look for something like that in the summer. Thanks for your reply

I've found out that a 'sweat band' also works great for grip and capturing sweat.

I am also looking for a new helmet. Seems my biking helmet may not be 'cool' enough and my ww kayaking is not designed for land use so my over developed research muscle found this info. Also, I suffer from excessive sweating and it starts at my head...yeah, I sort of look like a fountain. Here is some of what I found, hope it helps:

Quick info about helmets. Should answer the EPS q's:
http://www.bhsi.org/guide.htm

For doo-rags that take no time to tie. I have a few and they go on sale:

For everything you ever wanted to know about helmets:

For inexpensive multi-purpose and general purpose helmets:

Helmet 'standards'

Likely what the cheap in me will buy. They used to be Century Cycles which I know from my bike retail days:

For those really cash strapped there is always the Ian Tillman Foundation that provides a limited range of great helmets for FREE as long as you sign a waiver/promise to always wear a helmet. Great for those less fortunate. No one should be out without a helmet.
