If any of y'all DH come check out our race next Wednesday!  It's going to be awesome.

From SF:
$5 entry fee

located in waterford mi
The hill- .25 miles long with 3 different turns.
Left 90 corner is in between grip and drift
Top speed around 25 or 30.
Lines are key, the hill is not super gnarly but fun nonetheless

Parking lot near by to park cars and congregate before walking over to the hill
PLEASE DO NOT PARK ON THE HILL

Racing- Helmets and gloves required, knee pads recommended.
ONLY 24 SPOTS OPEN
4 man heats with the top 2 moving on

Practice from 10am to 1030am
Racing from 1030am on

Slide jam and freeride after.

Need- 3 spotters
(I have 2 walkie-talkies but a 3rd would be nice)

This is a first attempt at a Michigan outlaw race so don’t expect everything to be flawless. Be ready to be flexible and most importantly be respectful, keep in mind we are guests.

PM me for the location and please do not post it here.

Getting There

Set your GPS/Mapquest/Man-Sense to 7350 Cooley Lake Road in Waterford, MI, which is Oakland Community College’s campus.  Park in parking lot A or B, which are straight ahead as soon as you enter.  We will rally in the parking lot and walk over together (literally a 45 second walk.)  Once there we will need people not racing in that heat to spot.  Feel free to take some footage while you’re at it, just make sure nobody dies.  Remember to bring $5 for the purse, and feel free to bring any gear you’re trying to sell or, if you’re really nice, give away as a prize.

Intel

We rode the spot on 8/6 and all was well.  Four of us headed out and encountered a couple neighbors.  Right by the top we met a lady and she didn’t seem to care at all.  An older guy tried to get us to leave (I have a video if you want to see it) but we called his bluff and stayed for another hour or so with no problems.  In fact we saw maybe 3 cars the whole time, and none of them were ever on the run.  We also saw a lady walking her dog right by the bottom right 90º and she said we were really good and that we were fun to watch.  The traffic was literally non-existent and other than that old guy no-one seemed to care.

Rules
Rules suck but having a few will help us out tremendously.
1) You must wear a helmet and slide gloves.
2) Do not refer to this as an outlaw or race.  I prefer referring to it as a basket weaving convention but a group skate works too.
3) If the cops do come and ask for a person, say YOU DO NOT KNOW THE PERSON.  For example, if they come and ask for the organizer, say, “What organizer?”  If they ask for Peter say you don’t know who Peter is.  If they ask for Conor tell them you don’t know who Conor is.  If they ask for Shanaynay…
4) Kicking before the starter says go results in a DQ.
5) Kicking past the end-kick line results in a DQ.
6) No grabbing one of each other e.g. bump-drafting.  If you think you’re going to hit somebody it is acceptable to push him to avoid wheel on wheel contact.  NEVER push another person’s board.  Push them as high off the ground as possible.

Heats/Placement
Heats will be 4 men and picked randomly by names in a hat.  Placement for each run will be chosen by picking numbers 1-4 from a hat, with 1 being the most inside and 4 being the most outside.

Tips/Hints
If you have to run out, you can go on the sidewalk.  The curbs are angles (e.g. not 90) so if you have to run it out you should be able to go over the curb, on the grass, and onto the sidewalk, and vice-versa.  If it’s going to be a tight pass it probably isn’t a bad idea to holler that you’re on the inside line.  Generally speaking, it is up to the person behind you/passer to not screw up the guy in front.  The biggest thing is making sure you don’t hit wheels, because that never ends up well.  Don’t be an asshole and don’t litter!  Keep the swear words to a minimum or at least say them quietly.

Spotters
This run has very few sketchy intersections or corners.  For the sake of safety, and since we have the manpower, we will have 4 spotters.  If spotters are showing you the grip tape side of their board, you are clear to go.  If they are showing the graphic side of their board while jumping and flailing like an idiot, throw on the coleman slide.  One will be at the kick line ensuring that nobody over-kicks (DQ).  Another one will be at the stop sign.  Another one will be at the first 90º left and another will be at the second 90º right by the finish line.

After The Racing

We’re trying to get in and out of the spot for maximum legitimacy, so after the race we will head back to the parking lot to announce the winners.  Afterwards we’ll drive to a slide hill for soft and hard wheel jammin’.  Then after that we’ll hit the park or another spot (experienced people only please.)
