Well instead of hijacking the Xmas thread thought it better to pull together some reflections here. 2008 has been a HUGE year for the distance tribe. It didn't even really occur to me until my buddy Patrick shot over an email about a month ago, mentioning this.
I'm stoked about so many things that happened, just for starters:
-- skatenewzealand crew kicks off the year skating the entire country end to end, Sheldon rides a fresh Subsonic built for the trip
-- Eric Lowell comes up from Texas, for TWO Seattle Ultraskates!
-- Barefoot Ted pushes the 24-hour bar way up
-- Subsonic Scott launches a Pulse 2.0 and his new line of Century boards
-- MarkG's Cambiar bracket system gets an LDP development boost with Eric
-- northwestlongboarding hosts their first Seattle Push race
-- skatefurther goes live and the UK distance stoke explodes
-- An article on longboard commuting and NWLB crew is published, with a refreshing positive twist (Seattle Times)
-- Galac launches the GTCPLDP board
-- RollsRolls launches a woody
-- Eric travels to the UK for work -- and play, with the skatefurther crew
-- Ultraskates go global -- with US, UK, and NZ
-- The 100-mile club GROWS including Rain from Seattle, Rodgon from SoCal, Laura and Calum from UK, Thomson, Michels, Logue, and Simes from NZ
-- Rob Thomson completes his record setting worldwide skateboard adventure
-- SK8KINGS embraces the distance scene and the LDP prototype hits the trails
-- Push races continue to crop up worldwide (want to see some more PUMP races!!?)
-- Kudos to everyone here on this site who has caught the distance bug or had it ever since birth and all my local bros, and the CSA, northwestlongboarding, SkateFurther and NZ "Need Not Ollie" crew -- huge supporters of LDP and distance LB in general. I'd like to name all names but with my faulty memory I'd miss one or two. I will be featuring a couple NW locals on the site in the coming weeks, including Patrick and Beth, skaters to the core!!
