Not so much related to skateboarding, but a fearless, bold Portland OR artist who stared his tragic reality in the face and decided to have a good laugh -- and share his wry, biting wit with the rest of us.
His autobiography "Don't worry, he won't get far on foot" explained the tragic day be instantly became quadriplegic, his bout with alcoholism, and rehab through humor.
I met him once in Portland, and thanked him for inspiring my FLY Halloween costume from one of his cartoons. I painted my face and neck entirely in black, created these gigantic styrofoam eyes, mounted cheesy translucent fly wings on my back and wore a sign around my neck titled: "WILL WORK FOR SHIT" and rode the trains of Tokyo in said attire.
