On sunday I went a WFSA contest at Verdugo park, Glendale California to watch the event. Bob Staton told me about it at the pump house GS race a few weeks back.
So I took my Mother who always like the Freestyle events of CASL back in the day.
I met a few old friends like Kevin Harris, Keith Butterfield, Bob Staton, Daryl Grogan and some new ones like Stefan "Lillis" Åkesson and a few others I can't recall their names. So I am hanging out and Bob who is the M.C. is talking about someone and as he describes this person some of the thing he had accomplished in Skateboarding running Casl freestyle program and forming the PSL freestyle contests ,G turn freestyle zine and other things I did back in the day.
Then Bob call me up and hands me a trophy with my name on it and said Terry Trimble you are now In the WFSA hall of Fame. At First I was kinda of embarsed I was looking for my Mother she was in the rest room and missed the presentation. To bad but she was so proud of me during this year of such sadness with my Father passing away.
Then I sat down and thought it quite a honor to in the same hall of fame
as the greats of freestyle skateboarding from the 70's,80's,90's,00's.
Bob asked me to judge the pro contest it was something I had not done in a very long time but it like riding a bicycle. It was fun to watch Kevin Harris skate and also to see Keith Butterfield back from Iraq skating great again. Stefan "Lillis" Åkesson was fun to watch and the swedish style of tricks that alot of the skater from that region did. René from Brazil doing a combo street and freestyle runs.
Kevin won
Lilliis second
Keith third
René forth.
Well thanks for reading my story I am still kind of in awe over the whole thing. I am kind of humbled by the whole thing. _________________ Terry
My Dad also passed away just before the big distance rides picked up steam a couple years ago. Losing significant people in my life in recent years (niece to breast cancer as well) has made me skate stronger in their memory. Skating distance is a great time to think on a lot of things like this.
The events sound awesome, that's one thing we lack in the NW are regular freestyle comps.
And Congrats on that hall of fame trophy and being judge for a day--- even after decades, what a feeling to be recognized for that slice of time!!
